Has anyone done one of these? I would really like to and have been thinking of doing one since ex left two and a half years ago. We've been away just the two of us lots of times but I think it would be nice for both of us to have company. I just worry that everyone will know each other having been on these holidays before, and I'm not very confident with new people, although dd is and makes friends wherever she goes.

Hiya
I went on SWK camping weekend in the New Forest in the end of June. Im also a bit nervous/shy around new people. I found the group really friendly, some people knew each other , some didn't .I am planning on going on another camp at the end of August a Wikstead.

Just booked Wikstead for this weekend. Anyone else?

I have used Mango three times and would highly recommend it. We went abroad for the first time this year and it was great. It is a bit more expensive than doing it on your own but I enjoy having the company and DS always loves it.

I would be careful with SWK holidays. Went to Pembroke this year and the accommodation was awful! Worse than a hostel. They also said it would be appropriate with a toddler....which it wasn't - in many ways. it was a real let down after saving a lot of money for my first holiday away with DS since splitting with partner - very disappointing. I have heard that SWK had a good reputation but clearly not all the time!

DD and I went with Mango several years running & enjoyed the holidays

I just got from Majorca. The accommodation was basic but I like it that way, not having to worry about spilt drinks, etc.

Out of 16 families only 3 had been on an SWK trip previously. Only 2 families had met each other before but only briefly on a camping trip 18 months ago. The parents and kids all got on really well, the teens formed their own little group. the younger kids played lovely and the parents got to chat over the occasional glass plastic cup (as it was all inclusive) of wine. A good time was had by all Smile

Hi
I've recently been on a skiing holiday with www.singleparentsonholiday.com and it was fantastic! I always take DD away on my own and was nervous, but it was brilliant and everyone got on really well, including the new and returning parents. The holidays are hosted by really lovely people who own the business, and they take care of everything, we are already planning another ski trip and possibly a summer activity holiday in Austria

I've been on a number of Single With Kids holidays now and loved them all (including Pembroke, a fab location!). We've looked at a number of the tour operators but chose Single With Kids because they've a much wider range and have UK trips which suit our budget better. We've just been camping this year as we've moved house but still managed 3 camps with them. Laid back, great groups and always left my little one pestering to book the next. Just watch out for the tears at the end when they leave their new friends :-)

As with all these things you get out what you put in and if you're looking for a holiday with a bit of fun company I'd definitely recommend it.

I went on my first SWK holiday this year. It was a strange experience in a lot of ways but I did enjoy it, and will go on another one next year (hopefully).

You aren't forced into activities if that's not your cup of tea and its great for the kids to have a ready made group to hang around in. Most of the people were not annoying and in fact lovely which I wasn't expecting!

I would definitely want to know more about the accommodation next time. Ours was awful. So basic, dirty and cramped. Also no TV, Internet or phone signal (which was actually nice but I did miss MN)

girliefriend · 31/08/2013 22:06

I have done 3 of their hols and dd and I have always had a really good time Smile

Have done the New Forest one twice, had fantastic time both times and made some good friends. Dd loves having other kids about to play with and I like having some adult company for a change

I would recommend it.
