Do couples do this to you? And do you care?

A few times when I have been invited for dinner with a couple the husband has stayed in his study and not come out to say hello, or he's been busy in the garden and turned up just in time for the meal, or (this really annoyed me) he has called and said he's not coming home for dinner, he's going to the pub. These were three different couples, so it's not just one rude man.

Is it rude at all though? Or am I being oversensitive? I'm pretty sure if I had a partner with me the husband would make an appearance, even if he didn't know us. It makes me a bit cross.

Just wondering if it's just me, or if it's standard behaviour by couples when a single person is invited over.

I think it's very rude.

If I invited a single girl friend over to have dinner with DP and I, DP would say hello as soon as my friend arrived. He might then busy himself while the friend or I caught up and had a chat. But he would always greet a guest!

yes rude! couples can be very odd when it comes to single women I find (not all of them obviously) try not to take it personally - you must be doing something right because I don't even get invited round by couples generally

Ok - I'm pretty sure there's nothing I can do about it, but at least I know I'm not being ridiculous - it IS rude.

My DH sat through dinner last night with a single friend I'd invited over. Well her DH is in Afghanistan so she's not strictly single but my DH spent the evening with us 'as the only male' regardless.

I mean if I had several gfriends over and he was the only bloke then yeah, I'd think it was fair enough if he 'did one' but not with just the one gfriend over.

I wouldn't take it personally - maybe your gfriend asked her hubby to push off because she fancied a girly one-on-one?? He still should have said hello though..

If Dh in he says hello and vice versa but I guess the female partner thinks she is inviting you to see her not them

My DH does this but my friend is always invited to see me not us both so I understand. If they are invited to see both of us he's there. (sorry just realised that doesn't help)

Yes, that happens to me (a lot!) and I find it rude too.

The other one I get a lot is "DH is away next weekend so would you like to come over?"

grrrrrr. I know I am a desperate middle aged single woman but I am actually quite fun and I very rarely sob into my soup or flirt inappropriately with anyone with a penis.
