Had to call tax credits this morning as they have suspended my payments, Im really p**sed off as I filled in the renewal pack the same day I received it (weeks ago) but they just said there was one section about my income that i hadnt filled in, so they suspended my payments Sad I told them my circumstances had not changed in 3 years, and i never had a problem last year. Only change this year was i now claim income support, she said "oh well, we'll see what happens then" - what does that mean? Does anyone know if im going to end up owing them money back? I'm really stressing out!

Hi. Didn't want you to go unanswered. Whether you owe them money or not depends on what you were doing to support youself before you had to go on income support. If you have less money on income support than before then you'll not owe them anything. I don't think income support is taxable anyway. If you've just split up from a partner and had a joint claim before, then I think you'll find that you'll be entitled to more tax credits as a lone unemployed parent therefore may even find tax creds owing you.

No you won't. Income Support isn't counted as a taxable benefit so it counts as a zero income.

Phone them back up and ask if you can provide the relevant information over the phone, it's quicker than doing it by post. You should get a back payment although I know it's rubbish being left without money while they sort it out, grr!
