Just wondering if anyone had tried these?

Are they something organised by an agency? I'm a single parent and have been away with just dd but not with others.

I've just looked the website up - i think they look great! One of the things I have felt in the past is that dd had no-one but me to play with on our holiday, and I felt the occasional need for some adult company too. I'd definitely consider it!

A friend has now done this four years in a row - the first year she was very raw and sceptical, with very low confidence and self=esteem after escaping a horrendous relationship - she and her DC have had a fantastici time, which she could not have done using the mainstream operators.

Actually booked with another company in the end but also single parent type holiday. The other one included flights so less faff.

Have taken kids away on a regular package but did feel a bit out of things with all the naice families and their 2.4 blond children (actually they were a bit rough because it was a Jet2 deal from a Northern Airport Grin bloody cheap though)

Hope it isn't cliquey but DDs are too young to care about that sort of stuff and if it is, will curl up with my Kindle

I didn't know these existed...but googled. Like the look of this company

www.singlewithkids.co.uk/

who offer shorter UK based breaks too with less financial commitment (and short breaks to get away of it is too cliquey).

Am tempted by the camps - have a tent - only been used once....and I am assuming that if it is single parent then there would be others that muck in and help erect it as I can't do it on my own,,,

Hey Haunted Smile

How's the course?? I have passed my second placement and got a job so feeling loads better. Our last month is uni-based - so not quite as stressful as a roomful of attitudinous, hormone-filled Y9s!! Grin

I'm on a break at the mo. Here's a copy and paste from another thread which explains it all...but glad youve passed and got a job. Really happy for you.

Dunno if I'm enjoying it. I love the feeling when I have a successful lesson but don't seem to have manyofthose .

I am exhausted by the workload (but hope that 3hrs to plan 1 lesson gets better).

But things have been really shit outside school on this placement cos I have been caring for my DF who passed away a couple of weeks ago and supporting.my mum. This has been going on throughout my placement which means that I have had no focus.

I am currently taking a break because of it all and will return in Sept.

changeforthebetter · 22/05/2012 20:03

So sorry to hear about your DF Sad and it must be hard managing your own grief and helping your mum. It sounds absolutely right that you take a break. No way could you cope with placement on top.

I know exactly what you mean about 3-hour lesson planning Blush. I think it does get easier

Anyway, take care Brew

Haunted, the SingleWithKids holidays are fab, been on loads over the past 3 years. I've only been on a couple of camping trips but everybody helps put tents up, the kids go off and play and you get to have a glass of wine around a campfire with other adults to talk to. I must get more into camping :) but I think I'm more of a bricks and mortar woman.

Most of my good friends are parents that I met on SWK trips, it's changed my life.

scoobydont · 23/05/2012 21:46

I have also been on lots of SWK trips, one abroad and several in the uk. From centre parks to camping. am going back to majorca with them in July (I went 2 years ago and had the most amazing time) it changed my life too - I have made so many friends.
