Just had to say how excited I am to be heading off on the Single Parent Travel Club New Years Weekend!

Me and DS have been looking forward to it all week - hotel, bowling, out for dinner, New Year party, swimming pool, sno-dome yeah!

Having spent the last two NY eves curled up on the sofa looking at my gorgeous [but fast asleep!] DS, spending the weekend with other lone mums and dads and all the lovely DCs who completely understand this is going to be such a change.

If you haven't joined www.sptc.org.uk I can't recommend it highly enough, and there is also loads of half term, Easter and summer holidays already being planned!

That sounds great. Have you been on any of their things before?

I have looked at their website but never had nerve to actually book anything. This will be my fifth new years eve spent alone in my flat with DS asleep so next year would definitely be good to try something new!

I also had a look at the website - I thought perhaps a holiday with other SP and children would be good. But I could not find any events that were being offered for 2012 and there was no mention of any prices for anything. Obviously when you are a SP most of the time is spent watching the pennies - I know mine is!!! I was not that keen to pay £20 membership fee without knowing all the info.

The big difference with sptc is that is it isn't like mango and the others where there is an expensive trip on a particular date that you join. It's more like a private mumsnet club where one of the members will send everyone else an email saying I've just booked this cheap deal on such and such a website for these dates - who wants to join me, or I've booked a 10bed villa in Florida so if anyone can get cheap flights there is accomodation available. Or we're going to legoland on this day - who wants to join? I think this weekend started with a couple of people having an idea and now there are 50 LP families taking over the hotel!
The membership fee is more for admin and to stop the whole world looking at the conversations especially when you are talking about your kids.
That's why there's nothing really to see on the website as it's more like the PM system here, everything is going on behind the scenes.

How did i go singlevillagemum? Are you glad you went?

I've been looking at single parent holidays, mainly as a bit of company for me whilst on holiday and found this website which looks promising.

www.singlewithkids.co.uk/

I like the idea that everyone going along is in the same boat and am definitely going to try and book some kind of break with other single parents this year, even if it's just a camping trip!

Is the membership of SPTC worth it then? I like to SEE what I get for my membership and for this club it's hard to gauge really until you've bitten the bullet and paid our annual fee.

New year was absolutely brilliant!

I've looked at singlewithkids, mango, smallfamilies and anything google could find but I found the cost, the duration and the specific dates got to me everytime.

So far for this year I've booked onto a 2 week Easter skiing, an adventure farm day trip, a nature trail n nature craft type bank holiday weekend, I've got my eye on an adventure sports half term week and a possible Cyprus holiday for the summer holidays as well as several group museum trips if I can fit them in the calendar! I consider that £20 well spent!

It is a bit of a leap of faith, but you only pay once for life and I've got 13 years to go before I can send DS off on his own so I guess that is £1.50 per year?
