Is it just me who does this??

I have no family and it's just me and dd. She is 6. She fully expects Santa to bring me presents, too, but the reality is this year there is noone to buy for me. Her dad won't think to get me something from her so I have taken to buying myself a few little things, wrapping them and will put them under the tree as if they're from Santa. She'd be really upset if she thought I was being left out so I do this for her benefit.

Anyone else? Or am I the only sad git with noone to buy me presents??

hmmmm
OK you've all convinced me
will buy H a crap present - DS will think it great and thats what matters

as for Xmas morning - I have decided it will be thge ONE thing I will not budge on
H can come to my house every Xmas morning but he is NEVER having the kids on Xmas day as I refuse to lose out cos of his actions

MistletoeMiggins · 14/12/2005 22:29

thats what I love about MN
"make sure you buy one get one free"

wjhat great advice

moondog · 14/12/2005 22:30

MrsM..how about the shitting reindeer from Hawkins Bazaar. The kids willlove it and he'll know exactly what you're driving at.

Make sure the paper is reused and there is lots of cheap rough sellotape on it,plastered any old how.

MistletoeMiggins · 14/12/2005 22:31

moondog

GoodQueenSpursmum · 14/12/2005 22:31

Mrs M, my ex used to come on Xmas morning and originally when we talked about it he was going to do that this year BUT he lives with his girlfriend and she has 2 kids (9 and 10) and she flipped. My understanding is it wasn't allowed. So he said since I had her last year we should start the every other year thing. I did argue it but he gets nasty, threatens to cut money off so I have to give in. It's not ideal but I think when dd is older she will decide where she spends Xmas and I don't think she'll choose her dad's.

Xmas or not (I have read your posts) the guy's a tosser and doesn't deserve your time and energy spent on him let alone your money. I understand your reasons because of the kids but you can be very crafty and cunning but still look good with the kids - that would piss him off but he wouldn't be able to say anything.

MistletoeMiggins · 14/12/2005 22:45

Snowamanda
H can threaten money all he likes
As I pointed out to him today, if he lost his job(as he says he would if I emailed work telling collegues what hes been upto) I would still be ok

AND I KNOW that when DS & DD are old enough they will make up their own minds..

I will think of a suitable present that kids will love & H will get the message

MM we have got a mini-digital camera for DS. It was around £15 in BHS.

We don't know how good it is but as he is only 4.5 years it will do.

MistletoeMiggins · 14/12/2005 22:51

actually I saw an ad on TV for Which? 2 days ago - I rang the number and they are offering 3 mths membership for £3 PLUS a free digital camera so hoping that arrives b4 xmas

otherwise I may go to BHS - thanks

crimbocrazydazy · 14/12/2005 22:53

Kirstie76 · 15/12/2005 19:58

MrsM the shitting reindeer is an excellent idea - let him buy himself something from santa!!

nikkie · 15/12/2005 20:40

MistletoeMiggins · 18/12/2005 19:11

my in laws have been here since Fri and left this morning
yesterday they took my 2 kids out for the morning and I went Xmas shopping

when they came back, they had bought 2 presents which were a secret as my DS chose them...they wrapped them up and left them with all the other presents from my H's family....

I have just peeped in the bag and BOTH the presents they bought are for me
one from DS & one from DD
I thought his parents might have bought 1 for me & 1 for H....

having said that, seeing as its Christmas day in a week, H hasnt told his parents when hes going up to see them - they didnt even know he was coming here for the morning
so for them

SNOWaMANda · 18/12/2005 21:33

MrsM, how lovely of your inlaws. Sounds to me like they know exactly what their son is like. They're lucky to have you for a DIL.

snowmanda sorry for hijack but hows it goign with new york man?

SNOWaMANda · 18/12/2005 22:15

PR, I've kinda backed off lots since last weekend. He is nice but I'm just not ready on all sorts of levels. It would be easy to be with him so I was with someone but it's not the right reason. It's a case of right person, wrong time. I'm happy with that which might sound odd. I am not over losing my daughter or the trauma of my break up. I need to give it time otherwise I'll end up in another relationship that doesn't work. DD is happy and right now that is all that matters.

Sheesh, bet you're sorry you asked!
