Should I try to houseshare

I am a single parent who is not orginally from UK but have lived here for almost 6 years now. Up until 2 months ago I was living with a friend but she gave me and my son 4 days to leave. Do to the fact that I am not a UK citizen I can't apply for my local housing association or for housing benefit (I was not expecting it). Due to my becoming homeless I can't afford to fly to my mum so I must stay here. I am currently working two jobs in effort to make enough money to rent a house but I am running into a few issues-When I find suitable properties once I say I have a seven month old child I am told the owners don't rent to people who have children. My question to you is should I try for a houseshare? Any advice you can give will be great. Thank you.

what does it say on your visa?

pm me if it helps, and I'll ask some colleagues in my council's housing section.

The reason I ask is that if you've been here 6 years, can legally work, and have a British born child, I'd be very surprised if you did not have recourse to public housing.
