Sorry wanted a rant, me and H split up last month after a 4 year marriage and 3 young children.
So I go to the jobcentre to claim income support, all goes well, they tell me if I haven't heard anything in 10 working days to call them up and see whats happening.
So 12 working days later I have phoned them and guess what.... they have my paperwork but it hasn't been actioned,it is just sitting on someones desk. I am fuming, I have sold off any belongings of value so I can feed my self and 3 babies and I can't even pay my bills as I have been living off CB as CTC cancelled my claim to redo it all (but thankfully they have sorted that out), I am awaiting a call back which will apprently take upto 3 hours.
I'm just so angry that they haven't done it.

I'm so sorry. I actually pawned my wedding ring and engagement ring to make ends meet when my marriage broke down. I also rang the mortgage company and they put me on a payment break for 3 months when I explained what was going on. I think it varies from job centre to job centre on how efficient they are, it will be backdated though. Keep pushing and complain to management if necessary.

That is bloody awful, that's almost as bad as the letter I received from the CSA saying that I was entitled to a whopping £2.50 a week, it's just laughable, how are we supposed to raise our children on such little money xx

V annoying when they say it will be sorted by such and such a date and then it isn't, drives you insane - they were the same with my mortgage support claim, thought it was going to be 'actioned' then waited and waited. Worth pushing it and asking to speak to a manager if not done within the timescale that they have to stick to - not sure what that is tho sorry! Hope it's sorted soon, once it's done at least you knnow where you are moneywise (not rich!!) (but we manage)

You might be able to get a hardship allowance to tide you over or help from the social fund. The jobcentre should have told you this when you went in.

gillybean2 · 03/04/2011 07:30

What Anngeree said but you have to tell them that is the case or you won't get anything. Hard as it is sometimes to admit to strangers you need help you must do it for your dc's sake.

gillybean2, if you are struggling for money while you wait you can phone for a crisis loan, they will give you an interest free loan which you pay back weekly out of IS at a few quid a week. They dont like giving them out, an i didnt like doing it but when there are babies to feed.... I also found if i phoned the IS every day they tend to get it sorted quicker just to get rid of you
