What's the going rate for babysitting?

I've never had to use a baby sitter before. I've found one I'm happy to use. How much an hour should I charge? Do they make their own way to my house and back? What times is it reasonable to ask them to work till?

thanks.

They probably have an idea what they feel is reasonable. Some charge more after midnight. If they dont drive then they have to get home safe if they dont sleep over so you need to consider that to. Once I use to have a neighbour's 16 year old and paid £3.50 per hour but would stay out for at least 3 hours to make it worth her bothering.Another time have used a friends daughter and she was alittle more known to our family so she stayed over night and paid her £15 to £20 but these are people we knew a stranger may want a more professional rate. I am single Mum so they knew I dont have much spare money and was happy to just earn alittle extra cash now and again. It will also depend on where you live eg London will cost more than somewhere north. Hope that helps

thanks happygolucky, its a friends niece so I know she's okay and she's glad of any money! I was thinking £3.50 an hour. But was unsure about getting her home after, obviously if I come home in a taxi she can use that, but not sure what else to do as I can't drive her home with my boy in bed.
