Can anyone suggest a dating website?

Asking for a friend of mine who is really shy and finds it a struggle to talk to blokes in pubs/clubs etc, so a group of us are trying to convince her to try online, but obviously want to be cautious and sign up to one that's kosher. Any suggestions?

after seeing my friends experiences if she really wants a relationship consider one which she will need to pay for- it seems the guys on here are a bit more serious about relationships- Just an observation

Okcupid seems pretty ok so far and that's free. Lot's of men looking for someone to settle down with. Not all mingers either!

Thanks for the suggetions. I'm currently going through divorce myself with a 13week old daughter, so perhaps one day I'll give them a whirl myself, if I can ever grab the courage to meet another man again :(

I've met someone wonderful on the Times website - Encounters. Tried the Guardian one (same sort of search engine and approach) and had no success. Not sure if that says something about my politics or what! Tried partners for parents and was put off the limited numbers of members, plus the inability to search before you had to join as a paid up member. The Times one allows you to create a detailed profile and to search other profiles, as well as send and receive basic messages, prior to deciding whether or not to pay. This is great for the more cautious person.
