Moving to Islington (Angel/Barnsbury/Canonbury) with my 3 year old – local advice?

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping some local parents might be able to help.

I’m planning to move to Islington later this year with my three-year-old son so we’re settled well before he starts Reception in September 2027.

We’ll be renting initially, so we’re fairly flexible, but we’re particularly looking around Angel, Barnsbury, Canonbury and Highbury.
I’ve read Ofsted reports and spent hours looking online, but I’d really love to hear from parents who actually live in the area.

I’d be especially grateful for:
• primary schools you’ve had a great experience with (or any you’d avoid)
• nursery recommendations
• areas that work particularly well for families with young children
• anything you wish you’d known before moving to Islington.

I’ve heard wonderful things about the area, so I’m really excited, but it’s a big move and I’d love to benefit from the wisdom of people who know it well.

Thank you so much!

Have you thought about Tufnell Park? It’s fantastic for kids with the heath near by. Our son went to Little Angels nursery in Highgate/archway a few years ago and was very happy. We’ve moved now but friends very happy with Yerbury primary.
