Hi Everyone!

New user here based in Hackney, London :) I have a 7 year old son who is a talented dancer, and have been advised to put him in ballet classes.

My question is should I put him in a boys only class right from the start: RAD and Central School of Ballet seem to offer single sex classes or should I put him in a local (mainly girls) class initially and see if he takes to it? If anyone has any experience of either of the two schools mentioned, or any other recommendations or advice, I would be very grateful!

Best Wishes

Which one is nearer for you, and at the best time? You might find that one or the other has a waiting list so bear that in mind. They are both excellent schools and yes, it can help if boys dance together, ideally with a male teacher too. It is also good if there is a pianist. They very often play the set music slightly differently for boys' classes. More oomph. 😂

I’ve sent a message to a family member whose son did ballet in the same area as you until he was mid teens.

Clerkenwell school of ballet is where my family member went.

Thank you so much for checking! I've also heard good things about that school :) 🙂
