Hello,

I have secured a 25 yr mortgage and got told that my job is at risk. I desperately want to move it is extremely hard to live with 2 stepkids and their Dad. He lets them walk over him and consequently me. I tried over 3 years with them to establish daily routine and they just argelue back. Their Dad does not take responsibility and does not participate in raising them.

I am lonely and think that the new flat would give something to hold on to. Also I think I could get a job in 6 months.

I am 50 and this will be my last chance to have a mortgage.

Any advice appreciated.

Work until you’re 75 , I think you are being unrealistic OP

I'm not an expert... is your question do you need to let mortgage provider know now? Your job is 'at risk', you're not redundant yet so financial status hasn't changed. If you did get made redundant, how long could you keep up repayments?
Are you married to partner?
Might be worth asking Mumsnet to move this to a money or property board as may get more views than here in London.
And sadly I think working to 75 is quite possibly what we're going to have to do!

Well, they don’t have to work until they are 75. They can downsize.

Not the point. She can sell if it's not feasible. She's devoted it and that's fabulous. I'm 61 and will need to work as long as possible.

I didn't even know a 25 year mortgage was an option at 50!

Your job is at risk, but you're not made redundant yet. I think they ask you if you are aware of any material change to your circumstances in the meantime. Some people say something, others don't. I think it's down to you.

I would just carry on with it and not tell them, you've already secured the mortgage. Wait and find out what actually happens with your job and face that when it comes to it, or start looking for a new one now.
