Moving to South London - Bromley vs Tooting

Hi everyone

I will be moving from Edinburgh to South London for work and have been fortunate in that I am able to choose between living in Bromley or Tooting. The salary etc is the same, and I was wondering which area might be best for me to live in? And what the vibe of the two areas is like?

For context im 32, female, single and would like to live in an area where there is quite a lot going on and stuff to do but that also feels safe? And fine to be by yourself. I'd like to meet someone at some point so somewhere with other young professionals, nice bars/pubs and cafes would also be a plus!

I'd idea also like to be able to get to center of London easily and King's Cross for getting the train back up home now and then.. but looking at the map it appears they're both on the overground so probably not much difference in this?

Thank you so much for any advice you're able to give me
H

I don’t know Bromley but my ds lives in Tooting. It’s on the Northern line which gives easy route to Kings Cross.

I think Tooting would be more fun as a young single woman compared to Bromley.

Bromley resident here and tbh in your position I would go for Tooting. We moved to Bromley when our kids were small and had outgrown our tiny inner London terrace. It's a great place for a young family but I think not as fun as Tooting for the free and single.

Transport in Bromley is decent but of course no tube which reduces spontaneity a little.

Good luck with you relocation.

I don't know Tooting but I know Bromley well. Bromley is good if you want space and access to countryside. It's a good choice for families. I'm guessing Tooting might be more your bag, OP.

Yes, I'm from Bromley too, and I would suggest Tooting for you now. Maybe consider Bromley when it comes time for kids as the schools are good.

I used to live in and around Tooting during my 20’s, I loved it. I also worked in Bromley and whilst was nice enough there wasn’t a huge amount going on, and it’s a fair bit further out than Tooting. The nightbus from central London made tooting earring to get home to, and you’ve got Clapham and Balham right on your doorstep.

Thank you so much everyone! Sounds like Tooting is the one for me :D

Definitely Tooting! There are loads of bars, restaurants and coffee shops. The Furzedown area is a nice residential part, though not as close to the tube as the areas more adjacent to Broadway and Bec. Transport is really good with the northern line, train from Tooting rail station and also you can hop on a bus to Balham or Wandsworth Town for other train lines. Tooting Bec lido has just reopened after a major refurbishment. And if you like curry you're spoiled for choice, from Sri Lankan through to Indian and Pakistani. Oh, and the two covered markets are great too, with loads of small bars, restaurants and independent shops.

Definitely Tooting. It’s on the tube - Tooting Broadway and Tooting Bec on the Northern line. Food is great and it feels pretty safe to me. Much easier to get into Central London.

Tooting all the way !!
