Cutting the experience short to further career?

I started working and living in London in March 2023. I love being in the city and my work life balance is better. Money is much tighter but the experience is great.

I always intended that my relocation would be temporary and gave myself a timeline of 2 years. I do miss my hometown and family a lot (they are a 5 hour drive away), but I’m comforted by the fact I’m only here for another year. That is something I am very set on and I will not be looking to stay here past the 2 year marker I gave myself.

Last week I got a job alert on an app and it was for a job I’ve always wanted to do, paying more and with good career progression. I wasn’t looking, I just forgot to disable the alerts I’d set up when looking for jobs previously.

My current job isn’t really giving me much more experience than I already had. I am living for the lifestyle, not for my job. Sometimes I find myself frustrated and bored in the role, but then remember I have the city at my fingertips. If I wasn’t enjoying myself it would be an obvious decision.

Would you go for the other job, cutting the experience short, or would you have faith that there will be other opportunities next year and enjoy the rest of London, knowing it will end soon enough?

Where is the new job opportunity and why wouldn't you have a great but different experience there?

London is the biggest job market for a lot of industries/roles. If you want to stay why do t you actively seek out a role that would allow you to spend longer in london (and why the 2 year timeline if you're enjoying it so much?)
