Off to London soon with adult dd. Staying in Shoreditch, mid-week. Does anybody have any good restaurant/pub recommendations, please, either in Shoreditch/Spitalfields or a bit further east, if easy to get to/from?

We're both veggie.

So far I'm looking at Bubala, Padella, Barge East, Gunpowder but would love other ideas, or any comments on these ones.

Hi Remus there's the overground in Shoreditch which is pretty easy to get round on - and AC! You can get up to Dalston or Islington that way but honestly there's so much round Shoreditch, you may not need to. Also 73 bus still goes to Stokey, just jump on at Shoreditch High street. I think there's some good street art tours you can do round Shoreditch. Also just south of Old St roundabout, there's Bunhill Burial grounds where William Blake, Daniel De Foe and a few others are buried which may appeal to your literary side.

You've had lots of great recommendations already, I think we normally go to Song Que for Vietnamese - there's also an amazing takeout Banh Mi place on Old Street - Keu.

Tonkotsu by Haggerston station is good for ramen, they do a couple of vegan versions.

(I say canal because it's a mix of the canal and the Lea. The Lea looks like a canal too - and it pretty much in that part of London at least)

I want to eat ALL the food!

Have done the burial grounds before (but of course I have!).

If you like something a bit quirky batshit have you been to The Last Tuesday Society @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie ?

(Lots of good pubs / places to eat nearby at Broadway Market and London Fields)

Sorry @HundredMilesAnHour I missed this before. Quirky and batshit sounds right up my street.

Unity Diner is a must! Also head up to Tofu Vegan in Islington for amazing Chinese.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/07/2023 07:21

Thank you.

Tofu Vegan is on the list for next time I go with dp, I think.

Not really into the vegan junk food thing. Would prefer something a bit ‘naicer’ I think.

And right opposite, is a sustainable, meat free pizza place called Flat Earth Pizza. Fantastic pizza with a hipster Hackney twist!

How about Mildred's at King's Cross then?

Careerdilemma · 05/07/2023 15:30

Oh also Dauns is nice for low key Swedish veggie lunch.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/07/2023 16:06

Swedish veggie sounds good.

I like Mildred's a lot for breakfast, but was a bit underwhelmed by dinner tbh.

Some of those pizzas sound amazing too.

Another vote for Carpenter's Arms - but haven't been for a few years

Horriblewoman · 05/07/2023 16:25

Bubala is outrageously delicious, I’d definitely pick that

also Jolene red church street is a lovely bakery and take away coffee place

try Rochelle canteen but can be very difficult to get a table

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/07/2023 17:23

Bubala is still top of the list for dinner, I think. Close contenders are Barge East and 12:51 in Islington.
