My mum is coming down in a couple weeks, we fancy wandering and not planning too much. But I'm not a very spontaneous person, I like to have a lunch restaurant in mind 😆

We like Mediterranean, North African, South American, Asian etc - just not a steak/burger type place.

Somewhere cool and relaxed with great food.

Dishoom!!

We had a nice lunch at Benares but the matching wines were too sweet so just choose your own.

Gymkhana, hoppers, veersswamy
Polpo, cichetti

Hakkasan or Gymkhana - decent value lunch menu at both

But it depends where else you're going really.

If you like tapas, Barrafina is highly recommended. And they have three locations now in London. Bonus!

Ahh yeah I've had a good meal at barafina that's a good shout.

I think I want more relaxed than Hakasan

Great suggestions thanks everyone

Bala Baya is my favourite at the moment, Israeli restaurant in Borough. The food is delicious and interesting and great drinks too.

Odettes in Primrose Hill is our special occasion place. It's small and cosy and the food is lush...as is Primrose Hill.
Rule in Covent Garden (oldest restaurant in London) is pretty special.

Caravan, Kings Cross
Mildred's Dalston (though is plant based)

Palomar, Soho

The Barbary Next Door (part of the Palomar group)
Bab Mansour, Covent Garden (I like a lot of spice so was not particularly keen but my friends/reviews thought it was fab).

I love Rules but it is expensive. Otherwise Zedel (for the interiors as much as anything), Iberica in Great Portland Street
