Advice on commuter villages in Surrey

Hello, I’m looking for any advice or tips on commuter villages / towns in Surrey. We need to move out as we have just had our second baby and we need more room! We’d love to stay in the Welsh countryside where we’ve been for a few months but we both need to work in London at least 3 days a week. Surrey seems like the best option county wise for our family location in the rest of country and Waterloo is best for us to get into the city. But neither of us really know Surrey at all!! We’ll be happy to rent for a while before we can be certain we want to stay there long term. We’d prefer no more than 45 mins on the train if possible. Any advice or tips much appreciated !!!

What’s your budget and what do you want for it? And are you after somewhere rural/semi rural, in a small village, a decent sized town?

Thanks for the reply. Budget would be reasonably healthy. I think ideally would be rural or semi rural, but balanced against not having to shlep a long way to and from the station so maybe that ideal won’t exist!!

Dorking/Reigate are lovely areas. Shere is a beautiful village, but not sure how close the station is...

I live in Ashtead... just off J9 of M25 and train station with direct lines in to London Victoria & Waterloo. Lovely place to raise children (mine are 15, 12 & 2 and we have lived here since the 15 year old was 2). Lovely areas of countryside... Ashtead Common is managed by the City of London Corporation and has a brilliant network of footpaths & bridleways. Also Epsom Downs is only a short drive away as are the Surrey Hills - so no shortage of beautiful countryside.
