Myself and a Friend will be in London for a day soon. We don't live in the uk but we both know London reasonably well. We would like to book somewhere REALLY nice for lunch. It will be midweek.

We have been looking at the Chiltern Firehouse which looks lovely but if there are any other suggestions that would be great

We will be visiting the Tate and the Hayward so in those general regions

We both eat everything and love nice surroundings!!
Many thanks!

Andrew Edmunds is good.

How about one of the Skygarden restaurants?

Agree with recommendations for Pollen Street Social, one of my favourite places for lunch in London. Dinner by Heston is always a real treat but a taxi ride from Tate Modern. Trainers would be fine at either.

I would do breakfast at either The Table Cafe on Southwark St or Roast in Borough Market.

Vinoteca - fantastic food and wine, good atmosphere, decent value.

Has to be The Table Cafe on Southwark street for breakfast. They do amazing pancake stacks (including one with coconut flakes and homemade marshmallow fluff) working around there while pregnant was dangerous.

Recommend Hixter for lunch. It's a Mark Hix restaurant and it has an awesome hidden cocktail bar downstairs.

Would it be worth looking on Bookatable, they often have deals for the restaurants in The Shard.

Cantina Del Ponte at butlers Wharf is good, about 15 minutes walk down the river from Tate Modern

This is truly amazing! Thank you all so much for all the suggestions. It is such a pity we only have the one day....but I will squirrel away all the suggestions for another trip with dh!

Looks like I have lots of googling to do, checking out all the options.

I really appreciate you all taking the time to reply.

I will be happy to report back once we have been!

Sky garden brasserie was great! Great views, good food. It's a nice stroll along the Thames from state Modern.

I hope you have fun.

Tate Modern!

OP: would you consider asking for this to be moved idc to the 'London' topic, so that all these lovely suggestions don't just go pfft

WritingHome · 26/02/2017 22:07

EdithWeston that is a great idea! I didn't know there was a 'London' topic!
