A move to the Big Smoke: Holloway anyone?

My fiancé and I have recently secured jobs in London in the Financial Services sector. We live in Cumbria so it's a big leap for us however, we do have lots of friend in N.London primarily around Crouch end, Camden, Hampstead and Holloway.

We'd like to buy and have a budget of ÂŁ900k which gets us varying properties in the areas I mentioned above. We can get far more bang for our buck in Holloway and my friends tell me it's an ok area so I wondered if anyone else has any insight or experience of living there?

We lived in Tufnell Park for a few years with small kids. Loved it. Lots of little parks hidden around the area. X

Mussels hill is nice because it's, erm, on a hill! And it has a small town feel due to lack of transport. Personally I prefer East Finchley, less pretentious and better transport. I like the high street there but I DO like MH, it's just a bit nappy valley

You do need to think about your commute and particularly which tube line you'll be using. Also, you'll be zone 2 for Holloway, zone 3 anywhere north of there (e.g. Highgate, which you'd use for Muswell Hill)

You can't afford Hampstead, forget it. Or Highgate.

Crouch End - great for family stuff and really nice vibe but no tube station. Same with Muswell Hill.

Tufnell Park, Whitehall Park and, yes some bits of Holloway (but you really have to look on a street by street basis) are all good.

I live in Holloway & love it. We have a good circle of friends & my children go to a lovely school. Being so central is great for work & being able to easily get to Upper Street, Crouch End, Muswell Hill, Highgate Woods, The City, Hoxton & lots of other nice places via public transport is great!
