We are considering a move from the Ribble Valley to South Cumbria - anywhere with good access to M6. Can anyone tell me if Dallam School is really as fantastic as the Ofsted report implies? Also, can anyone recommend a really good Primary School - preferably 100+ children rather than a really tiddly one. Finally, is there enough for under 10s to do? - in particular is there a junior football club, somewhere to play tennis and any drama courses/choirs for kids. Really looking for a quick guide to the area from someone who lives there. Thanks - any help much appreciated!

Dallam school is v good. Primary wise Milnthorpe is lovely. It's a small school but v caring & v nice atmosphere.they seem to have a lot going on too.
Lots of sports activities through Dallam in holidays & lots at Kendal leisure centre. Not sure about drama stuff but pretty sure there is stuff in Kendal through the Brewery arts centre.

Dallam is looking at Academy status so potentially from September if that influences any decisions!

oooh i went to dallam school! did loads of fantastic outdoorsy things with them. great for drama too. that was in the days of mr jones though circa 1996 so he may not be there nowadays. also it's quite international as it has a boarding house so takes in a lot of military kids and kids with parents in the gulf as well as from the far east.

in my day the village school in arnside was the best around, though for bigger schools you'd be looking at kendal. i went to the catholic school in kendal.

brewery in kendal v. good too yes.

We've recently moved from Lancashire too - now in Heversham which is a small village in the Milnthorpe area. Yes I believe Dallam school is v good. Our girls will be going to Heversham St Peters which is small but wonderful.

Tennis here in Heversham, plus outdoor swimming pool too.

A fabulous move that we don't regret at all!!!!!!!!!

Any Dallam people still around here? My daughter will be boarding from 2013 and am feeling the need to touch base! My baby, my baby ... OK, she'll be 15, but even so ...
