Are there any dance classes for children in hackney?

I am looking for a dance/ballet class for my 3.5 year old? Does anyone know of any in Hackney? Something that is fun and not too pricey would be good.

They've just set up dance classes for boys and girls of all ages - from tiny to teenagers - in the dance studios underneath the North East London Gymnastics Club (venue = the former Zoomaround building on Milton Grove, near Newington Green).

Unfortunately they are far better at teaching gym and dance than they are at updating their website, which is woefully out of date.

However, if you email them they will send you details of all the new classes that have just started. There are loads of dance classes of different kinds for kids of all ages - including ballet, street dance, breakdancing, capoeira, creative dance, and more - and the teachers are fab. Both my son and my daughter love the classes - they've been doing gym there since they were teeny, and are now doing dance there too.

There's also an offer on at the moment to try out new dance classes, which might be worth a look.

SHAD (Stamford Hill Academy of Dance) is really good. Weekly classes in ballet, tap and modern at St Mary's Churcc hall in Defoe Rd. just of Church Street in Stoke Newington.

Just wanted to add, went to the class at St John's last night for 4-6 year olds and it was fab, relaxed and fun and not over crowded. Would really recommend it. Not at all girly either..don't want to put any boys off!

There's a dance at energie fitness gym (next to Hackney Town Hall) on tuesdays, 4pm-5pm, for boys and girls. Streetdance, African, Contemporary, Ballet and Jazz

Another vote for Stamford Hill Academy of Dance - DD goes there (aged nearly five) and has been going there since she was 3 - she loves it. Classes for the small ones are on a Sat morning.
