i am a local Fulham mother of 2 toddlers ( emily, 2 years old, Sophie 1 year old and about to have number 3 any day now. I heard some bad news this morning about my local playgroup and wanted to get in touch with everyone to help save it.
The Sands End Playhouse is being closed down in September because of loss of funding due to government cuts.
It has been there for 40 years and the government has decided not to fund them anymore! They received a letter this morning saying that they have not got their funding and it will therefore close in September. THEY HAVE 5 DAYS TO APPEAL.
However the council must receive 500 EMAILS BY MONDAY MORNING in order for the appeal to go ahead.
They run a under 5's playgroup (drop-in centre for carers and children) every morning and after school clubs for working parents. They have an indoor area with toys, painting and activities and an outdoor
space. It only costs £2 per family as a donation as its 70% is funded by the council. The people who work there have been there for 25 years and are really lovely and put a huge amount of effort into running it.
It really is terrible and will be a huge loss to the community. Could you please send an email over the weekend, stating what a great loss it will be and that they should reconsider.
