Child friendly Eating in York

What a fantastic site- cant believe I've only just found this.
Help! I am sick of taking Alice (3) in cafes in York town centre where there is nothing child friendly to eat and the clientell are hostile to families.
Can anyone recommend anywhere that is child friendly?
Ideally organic, local provenance and homemade. Prefer somewhere unique rather than a chain but happy for any suggestions.
Thanks!

City Screen

Actually food area in the cinema but very child friendly and nice food.

If you only have one or two little ones, Cafe Concerto by the minster is great, a few toys, books and colours for kids but a very unique type place, yum food too.

Spurriergate Centre at the top of Coney Street.

Nice, fair trade cakes, coffee and tea, a kids' play area and all the child friendly kit you could wish for. kids lunchboxes, jacket potatoes, sandwiches. My son (4) loves it!

Failing that we also go to City Screen but the service is pretty slow so don't try and eat anything serious.

Blakes Head vegetarian cafe on Micklegate is good - also behind a cut price bookshop which is a major bonus!

If you have lots of money then Bettys and the Italian shop on Peasholme Green are both very sophisticated, serve delicious food, and are surprisingly child friendly. But they do cost.
