Hi all

Have a visit arranged for this week at rainbow day nursery and wanted to know whether any parents have any first hand experience of this place? I know its been mentioned once or twice on a few different threads but wanted to know if anyone would recommend them? Many thanks.

Hi, we would recommend. They are a small friendly nursery. The staff turnover seems slow, and we chose it after seeing a couple of nurseries - this was the only one in which the adults were sitting on the floor at the childrens' level (often with the children sitting on their laps) instead of standing, chatting to each other while the children were left to their own devices.

The building is old though, so don't expect a shiny new build!

Hi mamachris

thanks for this. i visited and the building as you mentioned was a pretty old school/church hall but the staff were very nice and friendly. hoping to put ds1 there if there is space!

Loved it. Was v sad when we finished there. The staff all know all the children, and they are far more focused on talking to them than the parents, but in a nice way! Having been places where I was schmoozed but they ignored the DCs I really liked how much they seemed interested in getting to know the children.

My only criticism of them is that their admin isn't always fantastic - when I was first looking I tried leaving a couple of messages to arrange a visit and they never got back to me. Eventually I just dropped in and it all went fine from there. Tbh though, once we'd started, I kind of liked it that they were more concerned to look after their current charges than follow up on new business .

Oh, and the Christmas pageant was just gorgeous. How the staff had the patience to sing those songs as often as they must have done to get the children to know them, I just do not know!

Hi Pam,
I've also just visited the Rainbow day nursery and had the same impression as you and ds will probably be going there in september. Have you decided whether you'll be sending your ds there? Have you paid the registration fee? I was asked for £100 which I thought is a bit steep.... and according to the website there's a holding fee as well to secure a place? ~I suppose there's such a shortage of places that nurseries can do whatever they want....

Pam888 · 21/07/2010 21:58

hi tugamommy yes we've decided to send ds there. Have sent off our 100 pounds (ouch!) registration fee and are waiting on the confirmation. No doubt accompanied with the request for the holding fee. To be honest we didnt have many options as we really need a nursery place for sept due to work commitments, and we liked rainbow. The fees are a bit steep but you are right, i made enquires at lots of nurseries and this was the only one that had a place! Let me know if you decide to send your ds there in sept x

Well it turned out we were offered a place at Joint Colleges in the end - we had been on the waiting list for over 1 year. All very last minute which stressed me out a bit.... but it´s a better option for us because of the location. Annoyingly, we´ll have to pay full time even though ds will only be going 4 days a week because they don´t do part time Hmm. I suppose there is so much demand that nurseries can afford to do whatever they want!

LaCerbiatta · 07/08/2010 19:35

Good luck with the rainbow, by the way. I´m sure your ds will love it there!

We had to pay full time even though dh works part time and could have had her at home 5 days out of ten - unfortunately the days differ each week, so we just ended up sending dd full time anyway! It is annoying though.

Do not leave your child there, but noticed that the thread started in 2010 and now 2018. We had very bad experience and the current management lies a lot. When you demand actions to take to correct their wrong doings, they attack you instead of apologising.

Priya85 · 24/01/2019 16:59

Hi, could you please elaborate on your experience? We have been on their waiting list since Oct 2017. I am hoping to secure a place this term session. I prefer Rainbow over the current nursery only because it is closer to home. I am very nervous about the change of nursery as my daughter loves her current nursery and well settled there. What sort of experience did you have with them?
Thank you so much!
