Hello everyone
We are coming up on holiday to York in August, staying in a little village near Pocklington.
It looks gorgeous, and I just wondered if there's anything you would really recommend we do while we're up here - SD wants to do 'The Dig' in York, and DH (yes, the grown up one ) wants to do the Jorvik Centre!
We're quite outdoorsy, so any walks, days out etc recommendations would be fab.
Thank you xxx

York Minster, Treasurers House and St Williams College - all lovely. The Shambles, Stonegate etc.

Flamborough Head and the RSPB reserve at Bempton Cliffs

Burton Agnes Hall is well worth a visit - has an original medieval building in its grounds in with intact vaulted cellar

Beverley is lovely

The Deep in Hull was very good when we visited a few years back. Hull is much much nicer than people will tell you and well worth a visit, if only for the truly marvellous address "Second Star on the Right And Straight On Til Morning, Land of Green Ginger, Hull".

Lots of lovely walks in the Yorkshire Wolds. Try the Pipe and Glass pub at South Dalton, the Wolds Inn at Huggate and the Wolds Tearooms at Bainton. All old haunts.

And don't miss the Railway Museum in York for a free day out!

I didn't know the Railway Museum wasfree laisee - that's even better!
Really looking forward to pottering round York as well, I haven't been there for years.

Railway Museum cannot be missed.

You simply have to get the lttle road train from outside the Minster, it chugs you there in about 5 mins. Or get it into town, whichever suits your parking.

Also Pickering - North Yorkshire Moors Railway is lovely, a trip up to heartbeat village place is really nice. Cedar Barn for yummy lunch.

York Castle Museum is good too and there is loads to see there.

I live in Pocklington, is a lovely area. The walks on the wolds are lovely, esp around millington area, we normally end up in the Gait Inn which do amazing sunday lunches (might have to book, its only small). Views are rather good as the wolds are the first hills for miles, with york being so flat.

Jorvik centre is good to visit right now, they have the skeleton of a gladiator very recently dug up in york on display now (complete with holes in his head from tiger mauling - lovely).

A walk on the city walls is always nice on a sunny day.
