Hi ladies, it looks like my husband is going to be transferred to Manchester for work. I would appreciate any advice on areas to look at moving to. We would like to be in a village/rural location within commuting distance of Manchester and with access to child friendly facilities/activities.

Looking forward to hearing your suggestions,

Marie

How much are you thinking of spending?

Didsbury?
Bramhall?
Wilmslow?

Disenchanted3 · 15/06/2010 15:32

Hiya,

South Manchester is nice in Parts. Didsbury, some areas of Chorlton are lovely.

Urmston is also a nice area to live around Davyhulme.

But like verywhere all areas have bad spots.

Have you looked at any places yet?

ange8 · 15/06/2010 16:07

There are some nice villages north of Bury, like Ramsbottom and Somerset, and Bury has good primary and secondary schools.

ange8 · 15/06/2010 16:08

Sorry, Summerseat, not Somerset, damn predictive text!

ZZMum · 15/06/2010 16:18

if you want rural then you need to move further out than Didsbury etc...

You would need to be for the south at least looking at Woodford, Alderley Edge, Knutsford.. all lovely and commutable but way expensive - the north of manchester is possibly cheaper but I know nothing on it being a sarf manchester girl!

Lilyloo · 15/06/2010 16:34

I am from Rossendale which is nice , good schools and plenty for my 3 dc's to do. Local farm , play area , nice family friendly cafes.
My dp commutes daily to Salford.
Cheaper than south Manchester too.

if you want ded posh like, go up saddleworth.

Really depends how much your house budget is tbh.

The Knutsfords/Aldereley Edge places are VERY expensive. Chorlton and Didsbury less so. Urmston and Sale more affordable.

Try looking at house on www.rightmove.co.uk in some of the areas mentioned to see what your budget will get you.

Although we weren't looking for rural, there's a lot of useful help here.

Where will DH be working?
