What Do You Love About Where You Live?

Essex, as we all know, is much maligned, but I love where I live. We are quite a small village, but there's so much to do. In fact, I am so much busier here than I ever was in London (partly as I was pretty lazy when I lived there.)

It's also very pretty round here. I was at the Prom in Maldon on Friday night and as the sun went down, the view across the water was really rather beautiful.

Whereabouts are you? Why did you choose that area? What do you like about it?

Oh I'm a mega-big fan of where we live - and anybody that thinks Dagenham is actutally Essex can go and spin on it! Essex is where there is actually some history & soul and where the water meets the mud!
I was brought up in Danbury & Little Baddow - couldn't afford to live there any more when i became a big girl (surprise!) so moved to Heybridge , Maldon. Been here for 14 years - and to be frank - wouldn't particularly want to live anywhere else .
My Top 6 things about Essex:
The Water ... Whether its beach at Frinton or mud at Heybridge Basin you've gotta get a bit of sea air!
The History - Proper Norman churches, castles, battlefields, Defeated Saxons, rampaging Iceni, Henry viii love nests...we are not lacking!
Wildlife & countryside - Proper variety - Ancient woodland, rolling countryside, protected saltmarsh wildfoul habitats
Scenery - Constable Country, Views from the Lower Burnham Road, views from Danbury Hill, sunset over the Blackwater...
Quality of Life - Low Crime, Driest region, some brilliant tourist attractions (Colch zoo, Maldon Prom, Brightlingsea, East Mersea), best Ale, good employment, some damn good schools
Best Pubs - to tell the truth, when we go elsewhere in this great land we rarely find pubs as good as our local establishments - and some of the best Real Ale Micro breweries are here too!

AND If you can't find something to keep the kids vaguely interested out of all that and they prefer to play on their Nintentos the can I suggest that it is YOU (not Elvislovesessex) that LACKS IMAGINATION & needs to find out MORE about where you live!

Oh, what a great post! You have mentioned so many things that I love about our area and Essex in general. I am not far from you - just outside Maldon too.

Anyone else?
