On yer Bike

I have decided to get myself a bicycle as an alternative form of transport for days out with DD (13 months) over the summer and was wondering if anyone else would be interested in joining on cycle days out with their wee ones too as not wanting to head out on my own (just in case)...

Don't really know any good cycle routes / tracks (other than the Balloch route) in and around Glasgow, so if anyone can recommend areas - again, not wanting anything to way out or secluded if going on my own with DD.

Would be nice to kind of start a Mumsnet Glasgow cycle group

Also, does anyone have experience of having toddlers in the kiddies seat on the back of the bike, do they generally enjoy it? Wriggle about alot? How long in the seat before they generally get bored?

How about Pollok Park (or indeed many other parks)- you won't get a massively long cycle there but its nice and theres a playpark if the wee one gets bored...

Thanks, I actually went to the park yesterday - totally forgot that it was good for cycling... so will probably use that as my trail ride once I get the bike

Hi Awakenings, will keep you posted if / when I get the bike and maybe try and arrange a cycle meetup at the park

may be worth a look

Toddlers are usually fine on the back of a bike: in fact they often go to sleep.

You will realise this when the extra weight on your back wheel becomes a "dead" weight! It's amazing the difference it makes to have an alert child, who is watching their surrounding and subconsciously "riding" the bumps and turns, compared to a slumped sleeping one!

We may have an old child seat we could pass on to you - I'll check in the garage.

Thanks providentielle, it looks like a great day out..

I have the bike, the carseat, just waiting on getting a 'bike beam' for putting my bike on the car rack... kind of didn't look safe with th back wheel stuck up in the air!

Hopefully I will actually get to use it before the good weather (and I say that lightly!!)is away

Well, finally made it out on the bike today at Pollock park - only a few tears when putting on DDs helmet!!

I registered on the Sky ride website as they will be organising some easy / short family orientated rides in the coming weeks (one of which was today). So if anyone fancies signing up too or even getting together sometime for an impromptu bike ride with the wee ones let me know
