Local ways to save money - hints/tips/shops/products/events. Any to share?

As of next week am on maternity leave and have more time to spend saving money so looking for local hints and tips.

One I would share - Turners Farmshop in Staple Hill (just off the Carsons Road (marked staple hill) roundabout on the ringroad) where fruit and veg (though limited to seasonal) tends to be cheaper and fresher than supermarket. The (local and good quality) meat is more expensive as is dried goods, but the cider (you buy or bring your own container adn they fill) is very good (several varieties) and very decent price.

Also Tuckers butchers on Soundwell Road - gets busy but very decent meat, cheaper than supermarket (again!) and customer service is excellent. Only does lamb/beef/pork/chicken but what they do is very good.

Any shops worth visiting? Events worth noting down or products worth searching out in the name of cost saving?

If you're going towards Kingswood on the ring road - the carsons road roundabout where you come off for staple hill. There is the Horseshoe pub on the right hand side. If you take that turn off and keep going up to the top of the tiny road - cycle track running alongside, the farmshop is up the top. Next to the pub is also a house with an honesty box for their eggs, but you have chickens don't you.

Or going from staple hill highstreet:
If you go down station road from Teewell Hill end to other end and get to roundabout at bottom of there go straight across and keep going to next roundabout. Turn off that as if you were going onto the ringroad and its first right almost immediately and go past the horseshoe pub and keep going up the road until you get there.

If you want to meet up one day I can walk you up there (am off on sick leave until go on maternity leave next week so as long as having good day can get out house).

If you want any cheap cycling equipment for children, DG's your woman. I will even deliver (see my thread in the local section).

Sorry, couldn't resist. LOL @ Riven not knowing where roundabouts are in her locality. There speaks a non-driver.
