Family move to Brighton

I am trying to find a place for our family to move to from London (partner who would commute and three boys aged 3 4 and 6). We are now looking at Brighton so thought would ask if anyone with similar aged children has made the move recently and would be able to give any advice about how good/bad the commute is/good family areas to live in and finally good primary schools ......We'd need to be near the mainline station for commuting. Thank you.

I commuted from Brighton to London for seven years.

Just don't do it. It's horrible.

I commute rubitout it's not ideal but not that bad! Living here is so worth it and great for kids (although I just have a seven week old).

Poets Corner near Hove station is a nice area. Also Preston Park would be good.

thank you....I know we'd love Brighton but worry about the effects of 15 years of the London commute on my partner....think we probably need to give it a try. Thanks for replying.

My DH commuted for a while from here too, it's definitely do-able. And after a while he might find a better job down here

Oh, meant to add that was from Hove station. So maybe think outside the box a little when considering where to live, as donttrythisathome said. There are other stations apart from the main Brighton one.

My DH commutes to London - he's only been doing it about 7months but so far he says it's definitely worth it. 10 years down the line he might feel differently.. It's hard for me and the kids too because he leaves the house before they get up and often comes home after bed time.

But it means we have a house with a garden and we live by the beach and hopefully better schools

I live above Preston Park station and often travel to London for work (5 mins walk to station), many of my friends also commute. I love this area as it's so central for everywhere in Brighton - pretty much everything, including central Hove, is within a half hour walk. Three parks within a 10 minute walk, views of the Downs, even woodland within walking distance. My kids go to Stanford Infant and Junior.

Hi - i commuted for 5 years pre kids and whilst it's not the most pleasurable experience all the time, you do get used to it and the trains have got much better (esp on Victoria line). And as someone else said, it is definitely worth it to live here, esp for the kids. I'd certainly consider it!
