Hi there,

Just wondered if anyone could recommend the best preschools in Richmond, Twickenham or Kew?
Does anyone know anything about Sunflower Montessori, The Studio Montessori Kew or Kings House Nursery Richmond.
Any info would be a great help!!

Tks

Best pre-school (state) nursery is Windham but hard to get into unless you live nearby now that admission is run by council.

King's House is pre-prep for King's House School. Don't know about it but King's Road Day Nursery is meant to be best day nursery in area.

Rainbow nurseries (private but also pre-school though for 2 years) also fab.

Kew Montessori in Sandycombe road is fab fab fab in my experience

I've heard it great from friends. Lovely setting.

Went to see it and really liked it but bit worried Montessori might be a little restrictive?? And think they have changed length of session to 4 hours which feels quite long?!!!

the one on sandycombe road does 3 hour sessions and I didn't find it at all restrictive. DS was speech delayed and very immature (if you call a 3 yr old immature!) and has blossomed and is certainly now ready for school in Sept. Setting may not be as nice as the Studio but trust me the teachers are great - DS loves it.

I will be moving shortly to twickenham and looking for a pre-school near by. Does anyone know anything about St Mary's Asquith Day Care or the Sunflower montessori nursery? I would welcome any other recommendations for my 3 year old. Many thanks

mummyquilliam · 18/06/2010 20:29

I can wholeheartedly recommend Sunflower. Lovely place, gardens, kids, teachers, atmosphere...

pearce · 01/07/2010 17:05

Hi Racka,
Thanks for this I have also been considering it as a Nursery.
Im guessing you didn't have any problems with them being quite strict (i guess everyone has a different approach themselves anyway). Only my child is quite strong and outgoing and I fear that she will be permantely told off!!

Racka · 01/07/2010 18:54

I don't think they are strict at all. They don't tell them off, they don't intervene much at all as far as I can tell. I think if the child has been really dreadful they just let them cool off in a separate room with a teacher. They don't raise their voices as they don't believe in it, they let the child 'think about it' for as long as they need. That's how I understand it.

Another vote for Windsor - Twickenham or St Margaret's! Lovely nursery, great staff, beautiful equipment.

pearce · 24/07/2010 20:42

Have actually never heard about Windsor nursery and think I have looked at most in the area. Do they have a long waiting list do you know? What do you think my chances would be at getting a place for January now? What made it so impressive to you?

mummyquilliam · 26/07/2010 15:43

its called windsor kindergarden its opposite york house and behind the civic center in twickenham. my mum is a nanny and the children she has looked after went/ go there (4 dif children) and it seems really good and the staff friendly

foxie201 · 26/07/2010 17:21

hi can any of you recommend a nursery in the Barnes/Mortlake/Richmond area?

cath100 · 17/04/2011 11:40

windham is brilliant, but because its free it is difficalt to get in to. mine are at kew day nursery which i love, really dedicated teachers but again hard to get into, but worth giving them ago!

printa · 14/10/2022 22:23

Rainbow nurseries are a disaster. shocking settings and really awkward attitude. Casa Montesiri Richmond is really great from my experience, so is Kings Rd

momdad · 16/10/2022 19:48

one more vote for Maria Grey here. Rainbow is not a nursery per se - they share a room that is also used for Adult Yoga or AA classes in the evenings.. ugh
