finding a nursery

i am looking for work and am told I need to get my name on the waiting list for nursery. My son is 18 months. Basically I don't know wher to start. How do you choose/find out what they are like? I live in LS8 area. I have been to a playgroup at one of the children's centre's that is fairly local to me but found it to be impersonal and not enough organised activities.
Any one have any reccomendations/suggestions?
Thanks.

Find out what all the local ones are and make an appointment with them to look round. Without seeing for yourself you won't be able to tell - what worries one person won't worry another, and different places/styles etc suit different people. Also, even if someone recommends a place, if they have had staff changes it might be completely different.

thanks for that. put my name down with one today, it seems you can go on the waiting list for as many as you want!
