Doctors - Mill Road/Cherry Hinton area

I'm thinking of registering with York St Medical Practice. Would that be a good idea?

Or can anyone recommend another good surgery in Mill Road/Cherry Hinton area? One with a good midwife would be ideal.

Tips for places to avoid also gratefully received.

I am with 281 mill road - love them...never had a bad experience with a doctor (although don't like the health visitor and one of the nurses is a bit stroppy/sticks to the rules) but midwife is lovely

Thank you! Funnily enough, that's where I am now. Was a bit unimpressed, but nothing really bad. So if the midwife is recommended, I'll stick with them!

Is that the male health visitor? I saw him once at a clinic and made a mental note to avoid in future.

I am also at 281 mill road, I also think the midwife there is excellent. I think she covers the surgery at cherry hinton too.

There is one doctor I am not that keen on at the surgery, but the others I have seen are really good. Never seen a HV there but I know the male HV you are talking about - he is OK but not great. The other HV I have seen (her name was Kerry) - this was at the brookfields health centre, was excellent.

That's very useful, thanks. I've made appt with 281 midwife and plan to stay with that surgery.

Reassuring to hear your favourable impressions. I had ghastly ante and postnatal care with ds in London so am keen to find better this time.

My dh took ds for 3 year check at Brookfields and saw Kerry, thought she was great.

I've been a bit annoyed about this "child and family health team" or whatever the local hvs are called. We had no end of trouble registering with them when we moved to Cam - they don't seem to answer any of the various phone numbers we were given for them.

I am with Cherry Hinton Medical Surgery. My midwife was Kate and she was a good midwife. The doctors are good as well.

I suspect the health visitor you are thinking of is Colin. Avoid him and run for the hills. He is about as much use as a chocolate tea pot!

the ladyis useless too..mind you the only things I can think that i may need to ask them for I can ask on Mumsnet or I'll go to the GP...I think I have seen her once after dd3...it is a shame because the last one was amazing ... anyway hey ho.

I think Kerry is a nursery nurse as opposed to a HV ... but I do like her

Yeah, don't really have any need for hvs either, but had to get ds registered with them so that he'd be referred for immunisations or check ups or something. Took months of hassling them.

But nice midwife will be very good thing.
