that's it really. Need a dress taken in - don't think it's too complicated just that there's a zip on one side.. is there anywhere pref in town I can get it done? thanks

i don't know of anywhere specifically, but dry cleaners sometimes offer this service

hi custardo, hope you're well. I thought of dry cleaners too but I need it to be somewhere I can try it on and they pin it etc - it's a bridesmaid's dress - I know, I'm a bit old so can't mess it up

Hey Migola.
I often walk past Unique Boutique just off Preston Circus (if you head from Preston Circus up New England Rd towards Hove it's literally just on your right after Barclays) and I notice they have a sign offering dress alterations.. might be worth a try, though I have no personal experience there.

migola · 19/03/2010 12:26

thanks. think I'll go with Helen's as it comes with 2 recommendations

Helens is close to me, & I'm fairly certain its closed right now, saw a holiday notice in the window very recently & I think she usually goes away this time of year for a month or so.

Theres also Seven Brides @, 9 Prince's Street, Brighton, East Sussex, BN2 1RD‎ - 01273 819884

its run by a couple of friends of mine, & they do a lot of alterations there too. & are pretty good.

treacletart · 20/03/2010 22:35

really? Sure Helen's on Portland Rd was open today - is there another one?

rockinhippy · 20/03/2010 22:54

Ooops yes, theres one on Edward Street near me, Chinese lady, thats the one I thought you meant,

I didn't realise there was 2 either , mind you, I was surprised at the recommendations, as I've heard otherwise, but that explains why.....mind you, everyone can have there off day, & Edward St one is pretty busy, so she must be okay.

migola · 22/03/2010 19:50

thanks rockinhippy, will try helen's first. the fact that the name has 'bride' in it makes me think they'll double the price on anything

lol, you might have a point......... though I think they are cheap enough on alterations, they have to be to be competetive, they do stuff for some of the stores too, so they make a cut on top,

I sometimes do Bridal wear myself, because your right, you can make more money out of it than the same amount of work in something else, but I don't do alterations due to a lot of cheap competition,
