Just Moved To Gosforth

Bex2010 · 06/03/2010 15:37

Hi

I've just moved to Gosforth due to my husbands job, with my 4 year old boy and 7 month girl. I've been to the toddler group at Brunton Community Centre which is great, but does anyone know of any other activities mainly for an active 4 year old, where I can also meet people with kids the same age, that's not too pricey? He misses his friends very much!

Also, I have some places at The Cedars nursery on Grainger Park Rd which has an outstanding Ofsted report, but has anyone used it and can tell me what it's like?

Also, I'm looking to meet people/make friends as I don't know anyone here and would love to build up a bit of social life whilst I am looking for work.

Help appreciated.

Hello Bex, I'm in High Heaton with a nearly 4 year old and a 10 week old.

Not used the Cedars nursery so can't help you there, was it for your 4 year old? Have you got his school place sorted for Sept?

My dd goes to pre-school 5 mornings a week so I'm a bit out of the toddler groups etc though I think that there are some linked to the churches in Gosforth.

We sometimes go to Adventurelands soft play which is very near us.

Hope you like it here, you are living in a nice area .

Thanks, yep got his school sorted for Sept and the nursery is for both of them for when I get a job

Seen Adventureland on the internet and thinking of going there sometime. I've noticed theres lots of indoor play areas which is great.

Thought it would be easy moving to a new city but its not !

Cheers

Hi Bex, I don't live in Gosforth but I'm not far away. On the High street you'll spot Trinity Church, there's a full range of events on there most days of the week (and there's the all important cafe!) It's definately worth a look. Do you drive? I can suggest a few other places beyond Gosforth too if you fancy...oh, and recommend schools!! xxx

decafgirl · 07/03/2010 20:53

Dur! Just spotted you've got schools sorted - where've you gone for? xx

Bex2010 · 10/03/2010 10:29

Got a place at Brunton 1st - I know there's issues with the system/links feeding up to middle school as its new but its the nearest one and easy to get to.

Ah, you on the Great Park then? Lovely. That school will be fab I'm sure and Gosforth High is a fab school. I think central middle is considered the best but I'm not sure what you'll feed into from Brunton.

Any joy with Trinity? There's also a piccolo music group running in jesmond if you're interested xxx

Very late message but if you are on Great Park, there is a playgroup in the Brunton First School on Mon, Tues and Fri 10 - 12 run by local mums (I'm a Tues attender)called Merry Go Round. Might be a good way to meet local mums and introduce your little one to the school.

I work next to the Cedar Nursery and one of my work colleagues little boy goes there two days a week and says it's really good, although it takes ages for them to send you an application pack through. I'm still waiting for mine and I asked for it twice since January!

I think onepairofhands may be talking about a parent and toddler group at the school, it's called Merry go Round. The application pack you are talking about, is that for Snakes and Ladder's playgroup at St Aidan's Community centre? I run Musical Minis sessions there on a Monday morning and I know the playgroup is VERY busy...there's always loads of mum's standing outside ready to go in on a morning. If you are serious about a space I would pop along one morning and knock on the door....otherwise you may not get a space. I think they have asked already for names for September and you have to pay a deposit too, as I said it's very popular!
