Thinking of an industrial estate or something? Tests next week and Dad and I are resting a dual control today. Coming from Partick area, any ideas? I can only think of hillington. Thanks

Crossmyloof Gardens.

Southside - but very quiet - we live there - and is often used by instructors. Good corners to reverse round, and good space for "turn in the road".

Good for your test!

That was Good Luck for your test!!

up maryhill there are quite a few industrial estates, but as i recall i got some great practice in on Stewartville St, WHite st and that bit of partick, also on the other side of dumbarton road behind the library there are wee housing estates with lots of culs de sac that were great for practising manoeuvres.

re the reverse park, the best bit of advice i got was that you know when the car is in but needs straightening up? just turn the wheels in hard and the car does it for you without moving forward particularly and with no foot on the gas. i don't know why driving instructors don't mention this (well i think it's something to do with wear on the tyres but who cares?) i told my sister this when we took out the dual control and it took away all her fear for her.

Pollokshields. Big wide roads, quiet. Try Nithdsale, Albert, Maxwell and Aytoun Roads o or any of the Avenues.

Aytoun Road in particular is used a lot for beginners, becasue it is wide and quiet - plent of room for 3 point turns (.... and easy to do becasue it is so wide!)

thanks all.

I made a right mess of it - possibly because petrol car and not used to that. Oh well doing a wee extra lesson after work tomorrow...stay away from the Bearsden/west end area around 6ish

you always make an arse of your first time with a dual control and an unfamiliar instructor, it's the law. if you went out again tomorrow you'd be ace. i speak from bitter experience, i always felt like the first day was just a waste of money and a real confidence drain.

giraffes, the day is obviously over so no advice to give, just wanted to wish you good luck with your lessons and test when it comes.

geordieminx · 07/03/2010 19:58

Pacific - how was party? No contractions yet?

PacificDogwood · 07/03/2010 20:19

Great party, highly recommended venue, happy sugarhigh excited kids, bump still intact - thanks for asking !

Sorry about hijack -'tis geordie's fault, miss

hijacks welcome! (although I do charge for them - 10p a word!)

Yes tallulahs away went on 23rd. Saw her and girlies beforen they left and got big hugs all round. She gave me a card and pressie and I ended up walking home with tears running down my face. Seen her aussie house - its stunning, so much more space than they have here.
