Hi, we've got some friends coming to visit which has turned into a mega uni-reunion plus kids.

In the old pre-kiddie days, we would name a pub, meet there at lunchtime and still be there about 11pm-ish. Obviously this can't happen anymore!

My dd is only 9mo so she is still pretty portable and therefore I've not had to organise anything like this before. I am thinking soft play centre then a pub lunch.

Can anyone give me any recommendations/ suggestions for things we could do? Have looked at the websites for cheekymonkeys and funky fun house but have no idea what they are like/ if there are any family friendly pubs near either of them, ideally we're going to need a pub with outside space (or near a park) for the the 3 and 5yo to run around in after lunch.

Thanks!

Red Lion, Grantchester has a play area outside and the food is very good. It's very family friendly without being plasticky and so on. I would be inclined to take them for a run around Byron's Pool for a bit and then go onto there.

PS Cheeky Monkeys is quite nice as soft play venues go, but the Funky Fun House is the worst place I have ever had to visit with children. Hell on earth.

There are a few pubs in Fulbourn (5 mins walk from cheeky monkeys) one is the six bells - has a garden at the back, no play equipment but lots of bushes/trees which provides a good area for hide and seek. Fresh, home made food. Pretty simple menu. White Hart is the other pub - haven't been there in ages but don't think it has a garden.

boffinmum thanks for the heads up re funky fun house, sounds like its best avoided! I do like your red lion idea.

claire thanks, think I'll give the six bells a call.

mrstickle thanks but Ely is a bit far I think - will bear it in mind tho.

I used to live in Linton - dh has taken our two to playdaze before and says it is lovely. And it is a lovely village for walks, I'd agree with that.

runningmonkey · 06/03/2010 19:05

Ooh rubyrubyruby that sounds good too. We're the other side of Camb from Linton but Soft play, pub then park sounds ideal.

Can see some weekend trips to village pubs in the name of research coming up

Also, I must admit to being a bit intrigued as to what is so awful about FFH!

It's um, a bit er 'busy' shall we say..daren't put any more!!

BoffinMum · 07/03/2010 21:03

The ball pits thingies have lumps of poo in there, there's no natural light and the fluorescent strips give you migraine, it's busy and smells of fast food, and the noise makes your ears bleed. Apart from that it's lovely!

runningmonkey · 07/03/2010 21:12

eeeewwwww!

I've taken to FFH recently, but this is because we go in the middle of the day. Often it's us and two or three other kids.
