Hey - my son and I have just moved up to Glasgow and are living by St George's Cross. The boy is 10 weeks old now and as I start to settle in I am going stir crazy.. I love my son but he is about as interesting as a drunken narcissist at times.. any other mum's looking for company would be most welcome to suggest a meet for a coffee... or perhaps there are some local groups? We are half way between Byres Road and town, I am half way between tired halluinations and bored ramblings!

Hi, mybabysmells, love the name, btw!

I am no longer a Glasgow mum, however there is a fairly active and regular meet-up of Glasgow MNers. Some are West End based, some Southside. Look meet-up threads up.

Also how about local toddler group, baby massage, library for singalong etc etc? Your baby might be a bit young to appreciate company, but you won't be .

mybabysmells · 04/03/2010 23:39

Thank you _ I shall follow that up! Yeah - my poor boy not only smells like an old family pet due for 'the farm' he also has a mummy with a rotten sense of humour. Puberty is going to be so cruel for him... Thanks again for the tip

PD where have you moved to? whens dc4 due? Hope alls well

mybabysmells hello! Near you is the gascube play rooms which I think is still open, possibly a bit young for baby just now - there are baby things but you may find most of the mums with babies also have toddlers they are chasing after! You could give it a try though, its cheap! link

Not sure where your nearest library is but hillheads fairly close to you? Just along GW road, it does bounce and rhyme one afternoon, and often mums chat after. Its a fairly big group but if you can get chatting to people your babies aqge then can be good to make friends and often people would pop to starbucks together after or in summer to botanic gardens for a wander. Anniesland library also does it on a different day so potential for you to go to more than one of you are really bored!!

Theres a lovely play group I went to in the hillhead area I have googled and I think it was hillheaqd toddlers on observatory road, inj the church. Really friendly and welcoming in there when I went. Think it was tue and thur cant remember which day I went on.

Some of us meet up for coffee so keep a look out for threads, I am now only free on fridays so have been missing last few but theres a friendly bunch.

I'm reasonably often in your neck of the woods as my kids are at school in that area (Glasgow Gaelic) and if I have to pick up then I'm thereabouts.

there's baby things on at the Mitchell library regularly I think - also a good place for a coffee if you ever feel the need!

giraffesCantCeilidhDance · 05/03/2010 07:45

Sorry reread op and see you've only just moved here. GW = great western road. Anniesland library is even further along it. Do you drive? if not can give you bus info.

Heres a link to find out times of bounce and rhyme sessions - here

Hi OP welcome to Glasgow, there is somethng on every day in the West End so you will not be bored once you figure out where everything is.
There is a nice baby and toddler group on in the Hillhead Baptist church on Cranworth St on Friday mornings from 10-12.
Novar baby and toddler group meets Tuesdays and Thursdays 10-12 in the Novar community hall, Novar drive.
Bounce and rhyme at all the libraries is very popular and free.
Balance do baby yoga, they are up near you
balance.co.uk/yoga/yoga_timetable.php
These classes are not free but do privide a good opportunity to see the same Mums weekly and really get to know people.
The Grosvenor cinema just off Byres Rd do watch with baby which is also very popular.
St silas Church which is very near you also to toddler groups not sure which days though.
Hillhead library on Byres Rd also have a baby massage class (NHS so free) on a Tuesday I think.
Hope this helps

Hi OP welcome to Glasgow. I think there's a new soft play place in Partick, which is not too far from you. Haven't tried it, but have heard good things - Giraffes, wasn't it you who recommended it?

I'd second Grascube playrooms - I've only been a couple of times (live too far away now) but it's great.

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 05/03/2010 09:30

good listings for glasgow west

if he's ten weeks old ask your health visitor to sign you up for baby massage and contact the nct to ask about their coffee mornings. your gp's surgery may also have a mothers' group, mine did.

PacificDogwood · 05/03/2010 09:48

See, I told you the West End mums would find you .

OP, there is also a toddler group I think on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the curch hall in Observatory road (Off Byres Rd). Byres Rd and Partick libraryies do baby singalong kind of stuff too.

We live in Lanarkshire now and have done for 5 years, but had first 2 kids in the West End. DS4 due on Tuesday coming .

giraffesCantCeilidhDance · 05/03/2010 10:46

Aah I see I thought maybe you had moved away away. OMG Tuesday

Yes softplay in Partick is fab

NumptyMum · 05/03/2010 10:56

Garscube is great - and v close to you.
www.garscubeplayrooms.co.uk/

I think St Silas toddlers is on Thurs, the one I go to is the one mentioned on Observatory Road (Kelvinside Hillhead church) from 10am-12noon on Tues and Thurs. Thurs is quieter at the moment. Toddler groups are good as often the same people go on the same days, so you're more likely to build friendships.

Really would suggest idea about going to baby massage too, I still keep in touch with mums I met through baby massage 2 years ago. Bounce & Rhyme is on Friday at Hillhead library, think it's at 2pm and it's a great thing to do with a small baby (that is too young to run away, lol).

You'll meet people in no time - you all have children in common! xx
