Hi,

I live near Pangbourne.
Have one son (14months) and another on the way (due in May).
Thought it might be nice to see, on a more recent thread, who is 'out there'. If anyone...

anyone know of a good (i mean reasonable) accountant in the area?

KWL51 · 24/01/2012 10:31

hi, im in woodley. a lovely area one or two 'bad' streets but thats it really, good schools etc. we moved here from earley and im much happier here.

We're past the clubs stage and i work so don't really know much about them, but all of my mummy friends fromthe school run seem to have active social lives. lots of classes at the church halls and leisure centres.

If you can stand soft play areas both monkey mates in wokingham and the mad house in reading have toddler sessions that would be suitable for younger babies and older toddlers, up to pre schoolers.

wondawoman1 - at work they use avalon accounting whch is based in tilehurst and my boss praises them after one or two dodgy accountants previously.

wondawoman1 · 25/01/2012 11:57

Hi KWL51,

Thanks for the heads up ! Shall give them a call.

:-)

Hi
I live near Palmer Park too - with two boys - one is 2 and half, and the other 9 months. I'd love to meet up for play dates - maybe we could try and arrange something at the park/play cafe?

HatsOffHalfPint · 21/03/2012 14:31

Hi,
I live in Tilehurst, and have a 7 month old girl. Would love to meet up with some other mummies out there and have a natter/cup of tea, it's hard to meet new people!
Anyone else local :)

stairway · 27/03/2012 16:30

Hi
Iam a mum to a 3 three year old boy. I have a little boy and I know no-one in Reading as we have just moved from London.
I would love to meet up with other mUms whatever the age of their children :)

tanya656 · 29/04/2012 14:40

Hi everyone!
I am mum to a 7 year old and 31 weeks with number 2!
I live in Winnersh and am trying to establish my own business so that I don't have to work for someone else after my second baby arrives!
Looking to meet new friends in the area too as not many of my friends have kids.

morenoodles · 14/11/2012 15:35

Afternoon all!
I'm a full-time working mum in the Twyford area, I have a cheeky 2 year old son, and don't actually know any other mums in the village with children the same age. We moved back to the area (from London) when I found out I was pregnant, I've struggled (massively) to re-connect with friends in the area finding that we've all drifted apart and no longer have common ground, various things have happened and we've just lost contact etc, I would love to meet new peps in the area..!

BerkshireMel · 18/11/2012 19:32

Hi ladies - sorry to butt in. I'm the local editor for the berkshire site and wanted to let you know that there's a bit of talk going on on the friendship bench on my site if some of you are looking for meet-ups outside of Reading. Check out local.mumsnet.com/berkshire.

Reading has its own site (outside of the main Berks one) as its such a large town and there is no local ed in place here yet - but hopefully there will be soon. Someone has posted on my site saying they are interested in being a local ambassador and organising meet-ups so I'll point them your way and hopefully she can get some of you together.

If any of you are interested in being a local ambassador and organising get-togethers, click on the meet-ups link at the top of the home page - there is probably room for more than one of you in Reading to cover different suburbs...

Best

Mel

BerkshireMel · 18/11/2012 19:35

ps we are looking for local ambassadors for twyford, wokingham and other berks areas if any of you ladies based around there are interested? You would just need to organise occasional (monthly ish) meet ups for other MNers. We are hoping to negotiate special incentive treats for our ambassadors (money off at local cafes, restaurants, attractions) through local advertisers and you would also be given a special MN card to negotiate your own special offers (ie if you organise a get together in a cafe, use the card to get your own coffee free). Anyone interested?

Beanoak · 30/11/2012 12:05

Hello ladies, I have arranged a Wokingham meetup for the morning of 12 December at the Kids'n'Action soft play centre in Winnersh Triangle (roughly half way between Reading and Wokingham). All welcome - see the Wokingham local meetups or local talk for more details.

I am a bit Shock at the idea that Beanoak is dodgy Dappymoo! I think someone may have been trying to keep you in Woosehill!

Beanoak · 30/11/2012 12:13

So excited about the meetup I completely forgot to introduce myself!

My name is Jane and I have lived on the (very civilised) Bean Oak development in East Wokingham for eighteen years. I am a married mum of two, both boys, aged 12 and seven, and am also a childminder to a selection of lovely little ones in different combinations on different days.

I have just agreed to become a Mumsnet Ambassador for this area and hope to arrange some friendly gatherings - indoors for now, but hopefully out and about when it gets a bit warmer. All suggestions for venues gratefully received.

morenoodles · 03/12/2012 13:18

Arh, gutted I won't be able to make this as its during the week...

musickangel · 02/01/2013 15:56

Hi!! I am new to Mumsnet- and new to the area I am in Bracknell, which isn't that far! There doesn't seem to be much going on in the local area- anyone know about a prenatal yoga class anywhere?

Maybe we can organise a coffee morning or something for us locals? I am 17 weeks- baby due in June.

Hope to hear from you guys out there!

Catherine

happyfirsttimemummy · 19/04/2013 21:04

Hi fellow mummies! I'm brand new to mumsnet, and have a 6 month old. Living in Reading town centre, and have absolutely no friends that have kids. Wanted to know what's happening in the ways of meet ups etc. Never been to any sort of mum and baby group before, and I'd love to make some new friends and give my little one the chance to socialise with other babies.

Would love to hear from you.

SpeechGarden · 08/06/2013 23:10

Hello new friends!
Our family is moving from US to Reading this August/early September. I've found Mumsnet most helpful for virtual advice, so I can't wait to actually meet some of you once we arrive.

DD is 8 1/2 and DS turns 7 this month. We have no friends with kids these ages in Reading (yet). Certainly we will be excited to have some playdates! MN helped my daughter find a penpal, who has been the best to excite her about the move. I'm not sure what we would have done without that help (she cried herself to sleep over the move before that).

We don't have housing yet, but are looking in Wokingham or Caversham (I asked for advice on schools in another post).

I'm a speech therapist waiting (hoping) that my license will be approved and I can obtain some part-time work while the kids are in school. DH will be at UofR for a master's program.

Our whole family is so exited for the move and we have found everyone to be so welcoming. Thanks again for the support!

Ellen

NewtoCharvil · 09/06/2013 21:21

Hi, my name is Tracy and I am moving to Charvil on 1 Aug from South Africa where we have been living for almost 7.5 years. We have a 10 yr old daughter & 8 yr old son. I don't know anyone in Berkshire and would love to meet up with other moms when we arrive.

Pute · 05/08/2023 23:54

Hi All,

We are about to move to Magnolia way in Wokingham. I wondered if it is part of Wosehill as we haven't heard great things about Woosehill. Could someone shed some light for us as we are new to Wokingham. Thanks!

KWL51 · 06/10/2023 07:48

Only
just seen this. Yes magnolia way is on the woods hill estate. I don’t know much about it to be honest but have a friend who lives on the other side in one of the streets named after birds and she’s happy with it and plans on sending her children to the primary school near to you.
secondary school wise none are terrible in Wokingham. You have the holt which is a girls school. Forest which has just turned co-ed and embroil which is also mixed. I don’t think you’ll be in at crispins catchment which is the oversubscribed everyone wants to go to school but to be honest isn’t so much better than any other school. So I personally don’t understand it.

you’ll be nice and close to a gp surgery and Morrisons. There is an adult care centre that looks after adults with disabilities that has a nice cafe that’s open to the public and often sells plants etc that they’ve grown. That’s behind Morrisons.
