Sorry I have just seen this - mine go/went to Playcare - I really like it.

Have heard not very good things about Regent House (if it is the one in 7 dials).

Hi best of luck with nurseries, but please please do your primary school research! Brighton and Hove has a major problem, so make sure you get as much info in early!

any questions to [email protected]

My friends ds went to playcare and they loved it. I too had heard bad things about Regent House (the western rd branch) but that was about 5 years ago.

StumbleTrip · 26/02/2010 12:15

No personal experience of either, but I have seen Regent House staff smoking on their way to work, which always puts me off!

However, best to go and see and get a feel for them in person imo

Regent House Dyke road are excellent & have been consistently good for more than 18 years - I was first told about both Regent House nurseries 10 years ago when my daughter was small, she attended RH Hove as did my son 5 years later. RH Brighton are very caring and careful with all their children, they give them space to explore & be individuals too - I see them as a self employed practitioner on a weekly basis and would still recommend them highly. FYI I also see high standards in other nurseries such as Roedean and Deepdene.

I have been working for Regent House Day nursery (Brighton) for 5 years my child has also attended Regent house for the last 2 years the nursery has come under new management and if you READ the OFSTED report you can see how the GOOD quality of child care is provided.

All The staff are in their own right to do what they please in their own time however we have policies and procedures in place to prevent the staff smoking in or around the bulding and uniform is to be covered at all times.

Regent House Day Nursery is a loving, caring and homely environment and is supportive of individual childrens development. We pride our selves on aknowledgment that no two children are the same and support them and their families to the best of their abilities and to make their time with us a happy and enjoyable experience. :)

I am the manager of the nursery on Western Road. People have only heard bad things but has anyone looked around or seen the ofsted report. We have gone from satisfactory to good in just 3 years.

We do ensure that staff do cover their uniform when smoking, we will be enforcing it after reading this as we do take people's feedback seriously.

I feel word of mouth is good but you should always go and have a look around a few places to see if you have a nice feel for the place before saying bad things based on opinion not fact.

i am a parent of 3 children ageing from 7 to 2 years old my eldest son went to regent house when he was just 2years old then it was under different management and alot has changed for the better HENCE THE GOOD OFSTED REPORT!!!! my son who has just left preschool there was there for 2yrs also and loved every second that he spent there my daughter who is 2years old loves it there to they both go 2whole days a week from 8 until 6. the staff are very friendly caring an are always polite they are all very good at their jobs even the students which are training will become excellent nursery practitioners! the management team are fab always happy n smily n eager to help n work with you if you have any concerns about your childs development! alot has changed for the better since the new management team has taken over they now have a cookery room which the children can cook in alot of nurseries do not have this!!!! as for seeing the girls smoking on their way to work is absolutely ridiculous they are entitled to do as they please outside of working hours out of uniform and off the nursery premises and most importantly out of the sight of children as im sure many of you mums do go for a drink socialise with your friends out of the sight of your children this does not make you a bad mother so i do not see how this makes the nursery a bad nursery or the staff bad at there jobs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HoveToffeeCrisp · 31/08/2010 18:07

Abracadeabra, do you know if Deepdene is good for primary school age as well as nursery.

BonBonsWragg · 09/09/2010 18:44

Why have they closed down?

lovelylemon · 13/09/2010 13:02

regents house nursery has now closed down, footsteps day nursery in cromwell road has spaces if parents need a new alternative.

nellieloula · 09/10/2010 07:50

both my children go/have been to Playcare - and love it. The staff are older and have been there for the last 4 years which ensures a very calm, reassuring environment - no young, transient staff. They go to great lengths to create a 'home' atmosphere, cook and bake all their own food on site and the children are genuinely happy.

But I would also agree with the action4kids post about thinking about primary schools too - had too many friends be a casualty of the system.

Good luck!

what's your advice on primary schools action4kids and nellieloula?
