Poets Corner - activities etc.

Hiya,

We've just agreed a rental in Poets Corner, and I know that I'm going to need something to do each day as I find it difficult to stay in the house with a toddler / newbie all day...
Any recommendations?
We're right next to Stoneham Park, so I'm hoping to meet some other mums there, and I'm sure when I'm there I'll find out lots of things to do, but I'm a bit of a planner, and with potentially just 5 weeks until we move in, I'm starting to panic!

There is a toddler group at hove Methodist church Portland road, called polka tots, on Friday 2-4pm. the hove YMCA has a toddler gym on Monday and music group on wed. If you search family information service, they are very helpful with toddler activities in the area. Welcome to Brighton and hove!

I grew up in Hove, but haven't lived there for 20 years and it's a whole new world with kids!
Will check those out...

there's a music group (I think it's called mini music?) in the modern church opposite Stoneham park. i think its on3 days a week - I used to take ds2. Woman is mad, but quite a good group

the gym near there (near Toysrus) has a good toddler gym class too

The family information service will have all the details of groups etc.

we have just moved to holmes avenue which is the other side of the old shoreham road from poets corner. i also have a toddler and baby, let me know if you want to meet up - i also go stir crazy if i stay in all day! rachel

Really fab singing group - Hove Methodist Church, Portland Road, Weds and Thursday mornings 10.00am - drop in, £4, done with humour and a cup of coffee and the Clash on his ipod afterwards. (used to be at the YMCA on weds but he's moved now)

Ooops sorry - haven't been on line of late. Moving tomorrow tho' so thanks treacletart, I'll check out that group, and yes, rachelstephens, I'd love to meet... although I'll be unpacking early next week... can you pm me and we'll sort out a time / location?

I moved to Poets Corner from central brighton 5 years ago when I was pregnant with my first child, i've got two now, and I find Poets Corner fabulous for small children. Lots to do as mentioned above, but also there is Red Jelly arts and crafts group which is at Hove Methodist Church on Portland Road, there is the Conway Court children's Centre which has a toy library, a toddler group on Friday mornings, a mother and baby group on Tuesday mornings, there is Westows soft play on School Road near the West Hove infants school, Hove Park is not too far from us, it is walkable, up Sackville Road and has a really lovely cafe that mums often meet at, with a brilliant playground, I could go on and on! There are some child friendly cafes on George Street and on Church Road but the best one is Intenso cafe on Portland Road which has even got a play room for babies / toddlers and they have comfy leather sofas for breast feeding in that room too.

Great event happening at Stoneham Park - Poets corner, Hove on pm of Sat 18th Sept - Science & Sci-fi fair. Very child friendly, lots of free things & fun with live music, stalls, planetarium, eco stuff, cosmonauts, beer tent etc etc
