Geocaching meet up?

Hiya
Would anyone be interested in meeting up to do a spot of geocaching ?www.geocaching.com/

For our first outing, and seeing as it is bound to rain on us, how about staying close to home and doing one or two at Lexden Springs Nature reserve? There are four we could get in say and hours stroll i would imagine. Isnt there a pub near there we could go to for a coffee/warm up afterwards - or we could just go back to mine.

How is monday the 8th Feb at 10am? (Barring the early arrival of Bobbidy that is)

I'm up for my first bit of Geocaching. I don't know where Lexden Springs is though.

I couldn't care less about the geocaching (as you might have gathered) but I'm always up for a stroll. Me and littl'un will be there. Not been there before but I'm' guessing its in Lexden!

i will do a little reconnaissance trip before the big day as i dont know about parking or conditions. I think it is not suitable for pushchairs and can get v marshy - its mainly wooded. Will let you know the details when i find them out!

I don't need a pushchair, nor does SP...so should be fine, so far! Don't go searching out the geocaches though!

Right! We went out today to check out the proposed geocaching area so i have some better info now.

There are two places to park - one is down a road called Cook's Lane which is off the A133 where the campsite is. There isnt much room down there though, so today we parked in the NHS carpark (free but im not sure if we are technically 'allowed' although i will wear my NHS fleece!!) which you get to by turning into the 'Readers Offers' building then driving round the back. Confused?

Maybe the best idea is to get yourselves registered to the geocaching website and have a look for the first of the caches i think we could do. Its free and they dont send you any annoying emails if you dont want them to. Plus you get to have a smiley face on every cache you find! I am Bobb!n Threadbare if you want to have a look.

I reckon we could start with the cache called "Lexden Springs and Gathering Grounds 4" but could also do numbers 5 and 6 and possibly 1, 2 and 3 depending on how the first bit goes.

I recommend wellies and warm clothing, but now we have done a reccy i think i can steer us clear of the brambles and stuff that we got mired in today! We found two of them, didnt try for any others, but its good to know that the children (and Mung?) wont be disappointed as we are guaranteed to find treasure!!

If you want to take some treasure out you have to put your own in. Its usually a motley assortment of tat. Eg, keyring, marble, balloon, pokemon card in todays one.

Sound ok?

We have only found 18 caches - which is a pretty pathetic haul considering there are people who have done thousands. they are all over the world too!

Actually i may get back into it as i really enjoyed it today. We must convert sparkly princess to the quest for treasure

Oh yes, but SP you can also take your own Tat to replace it with! I am so looking forward to leaving some of the children's keyrings, marbles and anything else I cannot get them to part with!

Come on...admit it...you must be a little bit excited

Just to let you know...I cannot make it Geocaching now as I am struggling with the SPD at the moment. I know Pooter wont be there either now, so feel free to come to mine instead SP.
