Where's good to go sledging?

I'm feeling optimistic

I know most people go up to the Storey Arms but surely there's somewhere closer.

Any ideas?

I could do with somewhere this side of Caerphilly really, or at least a bit closer than Brecon. I'm just convinced we'll wander around for ages and I won't see anywhere safe.

Apart from that, how are you Sally? I've hardly been on here of late, hope things are ok with you.

Beechwood park in Newport is good, slopes but not too dangerous.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 30/12/2009 20:30

Well, so much for optimism eh?

Oh well, thanks,I'll save for future reference.

They said more snow Friday though, fingers crossed.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 05/01/2010 21:34

Well it seems we might get some tomorrow.

Bloody typical isn't it. No snow in the hols, then when we're back at work and school, it all kicks off. Grrrr....

Sorry to hijack the thread but where can you get the sledges locally.

MrsKitty · 05/01/2010 21:41

Have seen plastic sledges in supermarkets and garden centres recently if that's any help notanidea?

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 05/01/2010 21:41

No idea, we got ours a few years ago in The Entertainer. Don't know if they still have them.

We go sledging on the sand dunes sometimes, in Merthyr Mawr - that's in summer though.

Thanks guys will look at the local supermarket.

We found a fantastic spot today.

Go up Caerphilly Road past Thornhill. After the Pentre Gwilym pub, there's a few houses on the right, with a little layby. there's a signpost for a farm shop I think. Park there, then walk 200 yards further up the road, there's a public footpath and stile on the right.

The hillside just the other side of the stile is fantastic for sledging.

The wenallt, which is between Cardiff and Caerphilly.
Also, try the slope in Roath park, if it's open.
