As long as I can get back from London tonight ... memories of previous snow fall in recent years!

Claire2301 · 17/12/2009 12:42

It's stopping :-( We're over at the Regional College and hoping we get a good layer overnight!

yes I wish you a speedy journey home.. the area isn't known for dealing with snow well is it??

Still coming down in my garden in the city I have 'fond' memories of the really bad stuff a few years ago, took me and DH 3 hours to get home to Cottenham and then the electricity had gone out [brrrr]

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 17/12/2009 12:51

seems to be stopping here now.. I hope we get some more..

that nonsense a few years ago was crazy, one of our friends spent overnight in his car on the a14 and had to be bullied into coming to us (just off the a14) to have a rest and warm up before driving on to his home just near birmingham.

Mulled Fruit Shoot- lunch break over now. If it gets bad i'll get online via mobile and post on here.

mulledfruitshootandcheese · 17/12/2009 13:38

thankyou

coolma · 17/12/2009 14:56

Don't want it to snow - have cold weather provision for rough sleepers here at work (wintercomfort) and it causes all sorts of staffing chaos . If anyones interested I am on About Anglia tonight talking about it

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 17/12/2009 15:52

no more snow since this morning..

Coolma are you staffed by volunteers??

OP posts:
coolma · 17/12/2009 18:50

We need volunteers!!!! Overnight it's a member of staff and a volunteer.

Claire2301 · 18/12/2009 06:45

Coolma if I can help at all today please shout. College is shut so that's me off work.

Mulled Fruit Shoot - Hope you picked your DD ok, all was fine up until I left. I run a Guides Group Thursday and I had to run one of my leaders home as she's petrified of driving in it. Look me 1hr 10 mins to do Bottisham - Teversham - Fulbourn - Teversham!

coolma · 18/12/2009 10:56

Oh thanks Claire. We're actually shutting early today but seriously if you would be able to do any overnights if the weather stays like this, we would love you! Wintercomfort Number is 518140.

mulledfruitshootandcheese · 18/12/2009 13:07

DD got stuck at CRC.
Even the taxi's said they wouldn't be able to get her home. So off I set through the snow!
Cambridge had about 4 inches I reckon. It took me an hour just to get from Cineworld to the Grafton centre! DD walked about 3 miles to meet me! The snow was amazing though, really thick with loads of cars driving sideways!
I really really hate driving in snow but it was really driving more sliding in the right direction!
Amazingly the roads were clear on the way back once we were out of Cambridge, I really thought we would be stuck for the night somewhere in Cambridge.
We got home at midnight after 3 hours driving in the snow.
DD doesn't go to college on Fridays luckily!

Claire2301 · 18/12/2009 14:01

Oh no bless her. I'm so sorry. If it ever happened again my email is: [email protected] goes straight through to my phone. Please don't hesitate to shout!

Glad you got home safe and sound. Take care.

COOLMA - Do shout if you need a hand :-)

mulledfruitshootandcheese · 18/12/2009 14:03

not your fault claire!
I should have told her to come home on the bus as normal as it turned out she hadn't really needed to stay. She would have been home by 5!

Claire2301 · 18/12/2009 14:10

Typical - Just feel bit guilty. Some Public Service students are out on survivial this week - last night they were camping somewhere Norfolk way. Can't even imagine it!

TinselianAstra · 18/12/2009 14:35

snosnosnosno

goldenpeach · 19/12/2009 23:36

Made a snowman yesterday, blogged about it then realised that we made one in January this year, although we were living elsewhere.

Our close is an icy hazard and so the pavements towards the centre, so we walked very slowly all the way down today, the weight of our 'heavy' toddler in her pram helping to stabilise us. Was too late to snap pics, pity, I love snowy pics.
