Hi everyone, I'm new to Mumsnet and am hoping for some advice/guidance from you!

I am expecting my first baby (a girl) in March and have lived in Bounds Green for about 18 months. I moved to London over 10 years ago but many of my fiends have moved away now and my closest friends and family have remained in the Midlands. As such I don't have much of a support network...

I am really excited about becoming a Mum but do have pangs of anxiety that me and my babe are going to be a bit isolated! I have just passed my driving test so we are at least mobile and I'd love to meet some Mums and babies for us to become friends with.

I am starting maternity leave on February 18th (edd March 18th) and would like to join some groups before and after the baby comes.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Sorry for the long post, J x

Congratulations and welcome,

First of all, get in touch with the local NCT branch, which is probably Haringey. There are branchwide events but also there are local contacts for different areas and hopefully someone will be organising some local meet ups.

There's a Bounds Green Children's Centre - try the Haringey website and you can find out what groups are on there, a lot of CC's have a special group for Under 1s and their parents to go to.

Park Road swimming pool between Muswell Hill and Crouch End offers aquanatal classes several times a week if you want to meet others who are still pregnant.

There will be lots of other groups but you may not be ready to go and find them until a few months after the baby's born.

There may be others expecting in Haringey in the New Year who'd like to meet up before or after baby is born.

Hope it all goes really well for you.

Hi Jo,

I'm also new to mumsnet and in a really similar situation to you, am expecting my first (a boy) at the beginning of April and haved lived near Alexandra Palace for the past 3 years and Crouch End before that. I have a few friends with children but they have all moved out of London so I'm a bit anxious about being alone with the babe in London too. I've joined the Haringey NCT and we're starting the antenatal classes in Jan - I'm hoping this will be a really good way to meet people, I don't know if they have any places left but it would definately worth taking a look on the website...

The aqua antenatal classes at the park road pool in Crouch End sound good (even if the idea of squeezing myself into a swimsuit doesn't sound that appealing!) so I'm thinking I might try going on Wed next week, maybe I'll see you there if you fancy going too...

Happy New Year!

Nicola x

Hello,
I am Bounds Green too-expecting my first on 5th feb. (and originally from Midlands too)

Defo up for meeting up and aquanatal (whole other comedy story about how I attempted to go to park road aquanatal only to discover I had just done an hour of aquaaerobics instead!- havent quite dared go back soon!) I am almost at point of being unable to drive so will have to see if DH can drop me off!

Oh and if anyone fancies post natal salsa too.... think thats at Noel Park Childrens Centre.

Happy New Year!

BTW am going to Park Road Aquanatal tonight if anyone fancies coming? That's if I can find my cozzie.....

MissNicG · 04/01/2010 11:47

I'm going to try and make it too... See you there! x

Thandeka · 04/01/2010 16:32

awesome- Have finally found my cozzie- look out for a lass in a purple tankini top which fits her on the bump but not the boobs (my genius idea to save money on buying maternity swimwear was to buy a tankini top 2 sizes too big in the BHS sale! It possibly wasnt the best plan but since have only been swimming with bump twice in course of pregnancy (despite best intentions!) investment in a more expensive suitable swimwear would have been foolish!)

Come say hi!

Hope you all found each other at the aquanatal classes - I just loved being in the pool when I was feeling so tired and heavy.
