Hello! I've had this idea about forming a Baby Book Group in Newcastle/ Gateshead.

Basically it would be like a normal book group, where once a month you meet up to discuss a chosen book, but we could bring our babies/ children and discuss them too, if we feel like it. Or just fill our sleep-deprived bodies with coffee and remember the days when we had time to read books and have grown up conversations.

Would anyone else fancy this?

I have a 3 year-old and a 3 day-old. If everyone else had babies, I can appreciate it might be easier to do it when the 3 year-old is in nursery (mornings), but if others have older children too then we could make it the more the merrier and hope we get a word in edgeways. I guess we'd meet at each other's houses or somewhere central in Newcastle/ Gateshead.

(I've also posted about this on the Netmums Meet-a-Mum boards for Newcastle and Gateshead, if anyone goes on there.)

Hello Laugs, I will come, will probably bring dd (3.10) with me as well as ds.

Laugs · 21/02/2010 11:50

Great! Shall I bring a load of books and paper/ crayons? The tables in that area are quite low, so the older kids can play at them while we chat. Possibly.

Eek, I think I may have to be in Preston that day. Will definitely come to the next one though. Also, Laugs, did you get my facebook invite to DD1s party?

bellefry · 03/03/2010 09:55

Hi again I only work Mondays and Tuedays so would be up for anything the rest of the week

opalfruity · 03/03/2010 16:31

AM STILL WAITING FOR AMAZON TO DELIVER MY BOOK! Not a happy bunny.

Laugs · 07/03/2010 21:06

Oh no, Butterpie, just seen that you can't make it!
Opalfruity has your book arrived?
Bellefry, I'll let you know if we change the day of meeting. I guess we'll discuss it at the first meeting to see if it suits everyone.

opalfruity · 08/03/2010 18:51

No, still waiting. Amazon says they've sent it though so I will just have to be patient!

Laugs · 13/03/2010 20:43

Do you want to borrow my copy opalfruity? I could meet you on Monday morning to hand it over? (A bit late I know...)

OP posts:
opalfruity · 14/03/2010 18:58

Sorted with a borrowed copy now Laugs, but thanks!

Laugs · 14/03/2010 21:43

Just a quick message to say thanks so much for organising this today, it was great. I'm looking forward to the next meeting!

Am now off to eat some more pineapple...

Laugs · 16/03/2010 16:26

Thanks for coming! I had a great time too and it was lovely to have such a good turn out.

I hope your baby comes soon. You have my sympathy as both mine were overdue. It'll all be over before you know it and you'll have a gorgeous little baby to cuddle. Let us know what you have!

Will have to get The Rapture now.

Househunter · 16/03/2010 20:11

I really enjoyed this afternoon too. I have just ordered the next book from Amazon so fingers crossed it arrives in plenty of time!

Laugs · 17/03/2010 08:44

I'm glad everyone enjoyed it. I'm off to order The Rapture too.
Opalfruity, maybe you could ask Amazon to swap it for the copy of Guernsey that you still haven't received?!

I think we're probably all on the Facebook group and/or mailing list now, but if not, the next meeting is:

2pm, Tuesday 20th April
The Sage Gateshead cafe (to the right of the main cafe, where the armchairs are)
We'll be discussing The Rapture by Liz Jensen

If you want to join the Facebook group look for 'New Parents' Book Group'

Looking forward to seeing everyone there - newcomers very welcome! x

Hi, sorry I've only just seen your post. Our next meeting is:

2pm, Tuesday 8th June
The Sage Gateshead cafe (to the right of the main cafe, where the armchairs are)
Discussing 'One Day' by David Nicholls.

Hope you can make it!

We also have a facebook group you can join, look for 'new parents book group', and if you want to join our mailing list contact [email protected]
