lolololol glasjam has just texted me from there to say how 'sadly over-exciting' she is finding it. a live report from the front.

TheInvisibleManDidIt · 12/11/2009 12:29

Theres a waitrose?? Where?

AitchTwoToTangOh · 12/11/2009 12:30

on the byres road.

OP posts:
smallorange · 12/11/2009 12:31

dd2 is still napping in the afternoon so will be stuck mumsnetting doing housework.

i must know you - i know glasjam - give us a subtle clue?

AitchTwoToTangOh · 12/11/2009 12:31

where do you knwo her from?

OP posts:
smallorange · 12/11/2009 12:32

i was wondering if they would be giving away free stuff

AitchTwoToTangOh · 12/11/2009 12:33

not according to the email, i thought there would be offers to tempt us in but they seem to be relying on the fact that IT'S A WAITROSE!!! [excited enough already]

OP posts:
smallorange · 12/11/2009 12:41

I know her from toddler group - don't worry if you don't want to 'out' yourself tho

AitchTwoToTangOh · 12/11/2009 12:44

nope. i know her from nursery last year. i don't think we do know each other but i thought you;d texted me when i had dd2 rather earlier than expected. i may rather laughably be getting you mixed up with another tiny fruit or veg.

smallorange · 12/11/2009 12:45

agrghhh it's telling me they don't deliver to my postcode - am I too close to Maryhill?

smallorange · 12/11/2009 12:48

Ach never mind If you see a harassed woman with an enormous double buggy stuck between two checkouts.... 'tis me'.

Bet it'll be rammed..

AitchTwoToTangOh · 12/11/2009 12:51

haven't heard back from glasjam, she may have gone down in the throng...

OP posts:
smallorange · 12/11/2009 13:04

lost in action..some of those kelvinside ladies are pretty tough..

glasjam · 12/11/2009 16:16

Hey ladies - almost got ourselves a clique thang going on here

Yes, I have been in TWICE and didn't buy anything either time because I was so overwhelmed!! It's gorgeous isn't it (assuming you have been in by now?) - just physically as a space it's a transformation. I saw lots of the old staff in there in their shiny new uniforms.

I was very disappointed by the lack of free stuff - I was at least expecting a little stall with lots of samples on cocktail sticks - perhaps a bit of a downmarket expectation on my part.

I took the catalogue away and have been drooling over it. There was a woman in there from the Heart of Buchanan sizing up their cupcakes (she bakes them for HoB) - she was buying some to sample - she says they are selling for a third of the price of what they sell theirs for. It's going to have an impact on them I'm sure.

I shall go in again tomorrow I think, with cash and leave my bank card at home. Catch up with you both in the flesh soon (probably in Waitrose no doubt!)

AitchTwoToTangOh · 12/11/2009 16:32

oh my GOD it's so expensive.

OP posts:
smallorange · 12/11/2009 19:56

Hiya

Everyone at the school gates was disappointed by the lack of free stuff. We all expected some cava at least..

Yes I think Heart Buchanan, Roots and fruits and Mr-expensive-fish-man further down the road, will be a bit worried.

AitchTwoToTangOh · 12/11/2009 20:16

did you sign up for the zappers? i did. [nobboid]

i was really shocked by the prices, as i may have mentioned. seemed to be a good 50p to a pound over everywhere else, and even the offers just brought things back down to marks and sparks level.

hmmmm, maybe it'll be different when there are fewer people, but both me and dh were in for twenty mins, spent a tenner and still didn't have anything for tea.

OP posts:
AitchTwoToTangOh · 12/11/2009 20:17

(we had marks and sparks sausages with mashed pots and carrots and spinach all from lidl, since you ask. the banded two for three fifty packs of snags really are tasty in there, muuuuuch nicer than the supa dupa range with their creepy tight skins).

OP posts:
doggiesayswoof · 12/11/2009 20:21

Didn't go in today. Just about everybody in work went, and said they met everyone they knew in Glasgow

There were quite a few ponces in my office going "the prices aren't too bad, it was quite reasonable" etc etc

I didn't believe them.

Is there a wee coffee kiosk too? Heart Buchanan will take a hit, deffo.

AitchTwoToTangOh · 12/11/2009 20:27

it's a shame for hb, i really like that woman. first the bbc going, now this.
