Thinking of moving to Rhiwbina, anyone know the area?

Hi there, we are originally from n.cardiff (lisvane & whichurch) but have lived for the past 5 years on the border of cardiff & newport. We moved here for the Bassaleg catchment but are thinking about heading back to n.cardiff to be closer to family and the places we know.

We are thinking of Rhiwbina but dont really know anything about this area - certainly since having kids.

Is anyone from this area? Is there any toddler groups you can recommend? Are the schools good? What about nursery's? Is there areas within Rhiwbina to avoid? Where does Rhiwbina actually end and Heath/Birchgrove start??
What are the pros & cons of the area?

Really struggling with this decision as we'd be leaving better schools and all the friends we've made since having kids. If anyone can help with the good and bad points that would be great!

My kids are 3 and 1.

Thank you!

I dont live in rhiwbina but the primary is supposed to be fine but I am not sure regarding the secondary.Heath has got maes y coed primary and lot of parents who have children there seem to be happy with the school again no first hand knowledge. This feeds to llanishen high(correct me if I am wrong) mixed reviews regarding this.
I would suggest looking at the primary and secondary as children grow so fast.Cardiff high is supposed to be very good but only 2-3 primaries feed into this school.

Sorry regarding the lengthy message.Hope it helps.

We are planning to move to newport/cardiff newport border in the next 1 year time.Does bassaleg have primary school and how are the primary schools in newport

Rhiwbina, IMO, is quite small and perfectly nice for families. The schools will be able to tell you whwere their catchments finish. Birhcgrove Primary is very good though, if you come further south.

Rhiwbina is fab for families! My daughter is 1 and there is always something going on to take her to.

There are very good primary schools (Rhiwbiena, Ysgol y Wern, Llanishen Fach), and good secondary's (Llanishen, Whitchurch, Glan Taf). There is a nursery right in the village and others close by. You'll find daily preschool activities with various toddler groups at the community centre, church halls, library etc, My daughter especially loves Tiny Tunes on a Friday morning (and it's free!)

The village has a selection of useful shops, deli, cafe, bank etc and doctor, dental surgeries.

Rhiwbina sits in the area within Ty'n y Parc Road, Thornhill Rd and Manor Way.

Hope that helps.
