Areas to avoid?

Hi,

We're planning to move to Cheltenham in March and may need to rent for up to two years. We'll need a three bed but want it to be as cheap as possible as we need to save a big deposit to buy a house. Is there anywhere we should avoid? I've seen such a difference in rental prices. Are there bad areas of Cheltenham?

Have noticed that Gloucester is much cheaper so will post a similar thread on the Gloucester site although Cheltenham would be better for school.

Cheltenham is a lovely place, though. You will like it!

Oh, Leckhampton is a nice area of Cheltenham, but probably more pricey.

School is in GL51 6QS area so ideally want a maximum of one mile radius from there. Saw a 5 bed for £950 near GCHQ but wondered what the area was like. Really really need as cheap as poss so where are the non-pricey but nice areas and I don't want to be anywhere near a council estate.

GCHQ is right by Hesters Way...
I would try to avoid it if I were you. Plus the traffic's a nightmare and it's a very busy road into town.

see here for an example although it isn't the roughest place in the world, I wouldn't want my children to live there.

That's a nice school your DCs are going to. It's not far from my work, actually, and highly recommended!

Leckhampton or Charlton Kings would be much better. this is in Leckhampton or if you would like to stay under £1000 pcm, how about this ?

Hesters Way and Whaddon are best known for being a bit rough.

We've just moved to Fiddlers's Green, behind GCHQ. Not far from Hesters way and really it's fine I think. Same dillemma really, somewhere central we'd be in a crappy shoebox for our money, out here we have loads of space and so far everyone's been lovely.

(and for a 2 bed terrace with garden we pay £495)

hmmm, we lived in Fiddlers Green for a while, and although better than Hesters Way - still not too lovely. A better bet for you would be Hatherley, Warden Hill, Benhall, Shurdington in that order. They are not quite as nice as parts of Leckhampton, but are miles better than Hesters Way. Quieter roads, just the other side of A40 where GCHQ is and in general quite suburban.

hesters way isnt as bad as it seems. i live on hesters way road, right in the thick of it, and to be honest, have had no major problems here.

Parts of St Pauls are rough too!

we are moveing to bishops cleeve from licolnshire we are looking to rent also as house prices are so expensive we have looked at bishops cleeve as it seems cheaper and still nice good look with the move lol xx

We used to live in Hatherley then moved to Benhall when we wanted to upsize because you get more for your money in Benhall. I'm living by the park. I love it, all the neighbours have been lovely, it has a friendly feel to it and it's pretty close to your school.
